It amazes me how much further Mazda is ahead of much larger competitors in terms of interior fit and finish, materials, functionality, etc.

Not sure how I feel about their non-touch screens though. We rented a CX9 in Yellowstone for a week, and I never really warmed up to the rotary dial and non-touch. I prefered the touch screen in our Ascent. Also the Bose didn't sound nearly as good as the HK system in the Ascent.

It does drive better than the Ascent, feels smaller and is more responsive, and it got 27 mpg on our trip, vs the Ascent which typically gets 19 mpg even mostly highway.

A few changes to the CX9 would tip the scales. I'm hopefully for the next gen.

Yeah, my car has both touchscreen and the wheel, then they switched to wheel only, but I believe the newest products like CX-50 are back to both for CarPlay/Android Auto. YMMV, but even though mine has both I virtually never use the touchscreen; except really the rare times I type an address into the onboard navigation.

You might just need more time with the roatary dial. Not sure why they don’t offer touch screen too, but the rotary is a nice feature once you get used to it.

Buy my understanding is that touch’s teen is still disabled over certain speeds ?

It doesn't matter, the screens are so far away you need Inspector Gadget arms to touch it.

It works at all speeds for CarPlay and AA.

Agree - the scroll wheel seems a little clunky but I guess you'd get used to it

My 2021 Mx-5 has the touch screen lockout when the vehicle is moving. It's straight up dangerous. Instead of reaching over and quickly touching what you want, you end up spending more time looking at the screen trying to select something. After almost a year I'm at the point where I don't need to look at the screen as much to use the wheel accurately, but the learning curve/muscle memory curve is steep. I'm not surprised they got rid of the lockout in the CX-50.
