Looking at moving to Idaho

My wife and I are looking at moving from California to Twin Falls, Idaho area or Boise, Idaho. Was looking for some info on the area and car community. Maybe a better city i should be looking at? any thoughts would be appreciated

I am a huge car enthusiast so i am hoping for a good size car community. Also looks like there is a local track that seems like a car community should follow. I am a professional automotive technician and would like to continue this trade there.

Any inside help would be appreciated

I wish I had an answer for you, but having lived in 5 different states, from the midwest to the west coast, in large cities, small towns, and rural areas, I have found that they all have car communities. They may differ on interests based on geography, economy, etc., but there's always a car community. The difference between SoCal and the Lake Tahoe area was a big car culture difference for me, but the passion was the same. The real question should be what are you looking for besides that? What is it about where you live now that doesnt work for you? Not looking for you to answer those questions, just food for thought.

My wife is from Twin Falls - it has a small car community, but not a ton there. Really small town and more gravel pits and semi truck work than cars. Boise is not far away though (2 hour drive) and is a much larger city that has more community there.

I grew up in Spokane and that is a bit larger and quite a good sized car community. You could look into Coeur d'Alene ID which is just a quick drive to Spokane and still in ID if that is where you want to end up.

Idaho isn't a very large state - I went to college at U of I but its all fields and that's mostly it.

I have no idea of the environment of Idaho, My wifes friend moved to Star, Idaho and really loves the area. We are just looking for a new place to call home that we can raise our kids in and I personally would like a drag strip near by for me to stay out of trouble with my toys.

Obviously we are trying to look at areas to make our dollar stretch out further but i do not want to have trouble securing a job that can pay decently or having an extended commute for work.

Like someone else mentioned, Twin Falls is smaller, and most likely more "country" in feel. I've driven through that area a few times and that is what I got from it. Boise and the surrounding areas (Meridian, Nampa, Caldwell) would be less of a culture shock for someone from CA - depending on what area of CA you're from. Boise has a Sacramento vibe to it, college town, not huge, but bigger than most of the towns near it. Basically prices for places to live slightly lessen the further away from Boise you are, by how much, I am not 100% certain. I live about an hour from Boise towards Oregon, and things were much cheaper out here 5 yrs ago. But in all reality, coming from CA, you're probably still going to stretch your dollar further here.

I lived in Moscow for my high school years. Twin Falls is pretty meh. Boise is ok, largest city but still in the middle of nowhere in relation to like... everything. I like camping on the Idaho/Montana border, but beyond that, I would never consider moving back to Idaho for really any reason. I have never really felt "welcome" there as a mixed race person. My last visit reinforced that.
