Look up the name "WJM", I think he has dealt with a few...
You'll usually find him in the SE forum.

There are a number of things you can do to an old RX.

I have a wagon with the same motor and the single range FT4WD trans..

I've had some fun with it

Look in the old school section of this board, and also check out www.ultimatesubaru.net

I picked up an '89 RX back in November. Still working on getting it running but I have a list of mods a mile long right now that I have been doing since I pulled the old motor out. Here's a few things I have been working on:
'02 WRX TD04 turbo
'02 WRX TMIC
Samco intercooler hose set (y-pipe, IC to TB, and recirc hose for stock BOV)
TurboXS BOV
modified stock header until I can get a TWE
WRX downpipe
custom cold air intake
Greddy Profec II B-spec EBC and Auto Turbo Timer
5-lug conversion with WRX front struts and brakes
WRX 3 gauge A-pillar pod
aftermarket steering wheel and shift knob
automatic to manual transmission conversion
stage 2 clutch kit
dual electric fan setup

The engine however is all stock. I do have another engine that will be getting built as soon as I get her running with this one. A short list of the new motor includes:
full rebuild with carbed pistons
spider intake manifold
300ZX turbo injectors
Delta 260 street cams
new pumps (oil and water)
rebuild heads with 3 angle valve grinds, port-n-polish, portmatching
lightened flywheel and custom crank pulley with EDIS ring attached
full MegaSquirt and EDIS setup
custom equal length fuel lines
higher volume fuel pump
well you get the idea

wow
that's going to be a monster. When you did the manual swap did you find a center locking diff with high and low gear AWD.
My goal after one year of production rally is to swap a 2.5 Rs turbo motor with all the standalone goodies. Hopeing for 250-300 bhp. In a car that weighs only 1900-2100 lbs. That be good times

i have an rx.
anyway, i would suggest taking off the intake muffler first of all. it sounds great without that thing on there. i turned the muffler into a lunch box since its so big. i never realized modding old cars like this costed so much money (i'm only 16, $100 is a lot). i think the tuning has a lot to do with the driver. i personally cant stand understeer, so the suspension is going first, then the engine later. good luck with the tuning.

I think that weight goal might be a little optimistic especially with an ej drivetrain. although I would love to be proven wrong.

i have an rx, granted im trying to sell it so i can get a brat. they are incredibly fun to drive. the sedan weighs in at 2400 lbs. you would be rather hard pressed to get the car down to around 1900lbs, as there isnt really much to take out that weighs anything.
