Re: VZW Note 2 Battery consumption

I've had the Note 2 for a little over two-weeks now and have been mostly pleased with everything about it. Battery life was substantially better than my Gnex. At one point I was at 1.5 days with about 40-50% remaining...great stuff.

Starting two-days ago, for no apparent reason, the battery consumption has increased significantly. For example, i'm at 60% after 7 hours of on-time, 2.5 hours in airplane mode...

Something isn't right.

A couple of things I have noticed:

1) In airplane mode, battery consumption is zilch--so i'm thinking it has somethign to do with the radios.

2) This morning when I woke up, the battery only charged to 96%. It should have been 100%.

I've rebooted, shut down, and removed the battery several times.

OS is bone-stock, non rooted.

Any suggestions? Or does did the battery crap out or something?

Nope

Watched 2 hours of netwflix last night on it before bed.

Listen to podcasts for 11 hours a day at work, or music.
Then I watch a Tv show usually every night from my itunes library, or stream netflix for 1-2 hours. The other night was heavy use, and still it dropped 22%.

I charge it once every 4-5 days at most. I cannot tell you how unreal the battery life on this device has been.

My guess is there is an app running or wakelocks keeping your device awake. Check your battery settings and see if your awake time is significantly more than screen on time. Your device shouldn't be awake very often with the screen off if you aren't doing anything else with it like playing music or something. Sometimes the battery settings can give you some insight on what is causing it. Other times, you need to dig deeper with better battery stats (needs root to be useful), gsam battery monitor, juiceplotter, and watchdog lite are all apps I use in order to track down wonky battery usage.

Lastly, as far as the charging is concerned, make sure you are using the charger that came with the phone or one that puts out at least 2A (2000 mA). One night I had ran down my battery to somewhere around 3% before I went to bed. I charged it with a 1A charger. The next day I had something like 58% charge. Good luck!

I've got BBS installed now, haven't really had an opportunity to let the phone sit idle for a decent period of time. I've been using my N7 charger which is 2A and it has been fine forever until recently.

THanks for the tips

One other thing. Check your motion settings. I found that the quick glance setting, if turned on, eats some battery.

Maybe I should charge my Nexus 7 more than once every 4-5 days.

Installed an AOKP ROM last night on my N10. Seems petty snappy, destroys smartbench 2012 for whatever that's worth. Was fully charged this AM and was at 97 percent battery when I left. Got home just a few minutes ago and it is at 95 percent after 8.5 hours standby.

I've been running AOKP on my GNex for quite some time, been through 2-3 releases. Best battery life by far of all the ROMs I've tried.

I'm trying this out:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2072930

it's what google is suppose to be patching in the next update.

when i come back into wifi range, it doesn't seem to connect every time. these seems to work, haven't tried it on campus yet though.

This cannot be true... Or I'm missing something. You used it for 11 hours of screen on time and still had 78% battery life left. Then you watched another 2 hours and had 68% left.

Every battery run-down test I've seen on that device puts it at 12-14 hours screen on and wifi on. Which is great, but what you're describing is unreal.

You're describing a device that can get over 45 hours of actual use between charges...

Nexus 4 came today. Picked up a Microsim on the way home from work. Did an online chat once I got home and the dude got me all set up, but the play store and speedtest didn't work. Changed my APN to one recommended on XDA forums and I'm pulling about 5 down, 1 up now. MMS and speedtest work fine.

One weird thing is, don't have two APN's saved. I was getting crap speeds until I deleted the default one completely. Maybe coincidence, maybe not.

Great phone though. Though I don't like the bumper. It makes it just a tiny bit too big.

You need to do a reboot after changing the APN.

Here are my settings which I both confirmed w/ AT&T and XDA. XDA has a TON of misinfo as of late.

Anybody try Crossbreeder? Looks cool and should work on all Android devices. Common sense approach to big time performance boosts.

I think I'll flash it tomorrow.

Damn, uninstalling iTunes felt amazing. The iPhone has been good to me for years, but it does feel pretty good to be Apple free for a while.
