COBB AP 100% yes!

If you decided to get some mods on the ride. I would recommend going with Phat Botti Tuning or Bren Tuning for an e-tune.

Top mount intercooler (TMIC)
Charge pipe
Down pipe
Catback
EGR/TGV deletes
etc..

Would be a great starting point. Performance over aesthetics first is the best advice i've ever been given.

Default Best thing you can purchase!

Everything has already been said but this is amazing. It made the car so much more fun to drive and fixed all the negative aspect I didn’t like from the stock. Subaru should really look into making these standard.

The only thing I want to add is that Subaru has a lot more factors than just optimal performance when it comes to what tune they let the car leave the factory with. Im willing to bet meeting emission standards for CA lets them access a market that more than pays for a slight uptick in engine warranty claims. Do I trust Cobb just because they are Cobb? No. Will a stage 1 tune leave me on the hook for any power train failures? Very likely. Do I trust the stage 1 tune more than the factory tune? Yes. The power torque curves are much smoother and consistent, and to date Ive never had my ecu adjust my timing because of knock events, when I definitely ran into that when it was stock. Just my 2 cents.

I have a V2 I've had since 2012 and I rarely have it hooked up in the car for monitoring, but it stays in my glovebox. I'd keep it up, but it doesn't turn off with the car.

Anyways, I've used it a 2-3 times to read CEL codes. Most of all, I was able to check DAM and AF learning numbers when I thought I had bad gas and a boost leak respectively. Another time I was out and my car wouldn't start, but you can also read voltage - battery was dead.

You can get a CEL code reader for $15, voltmeter for free at harbor freight, but the ability to read ECU parameters is really helpful. Also, even if you have a protune, being able to switch between maps to maybe 91 and 93 octane id great too.

So, eh, it's not absolutely necessary, but it does help. The V3's are much better at displaying data with the larger screens and ability to turn off with the car.

I went straight to stage 2, but being able to go to stage 1, to 2, then eventually get a protune with it is great.

I'd recommend it, but it's not absolutely necessary.

If you're on the fence about ditching your WRX for another car, due to the rev hang or non-linear throttle, then the $650 is worth the risk. Especially, if you like the car there are just those 'little' things that keep eating at you. The AP w/ MAP stage 1 won't make the WRX a rocket ship. However, it will eliminate the need to shift like a grandma to keep it from jerking like it has epilepsy on spirited shifts. (The 1st to 2nd shift is just plain horrible.) It does add a little peppiness, too, but if that's the sole reason you want it you may be left...wanting. The big thing is it seems to run better in every way now.

I love my 2016 WRX now since installing the AP. Prior, I was miserable and had the worst case of buyer's remorse. The car now drives like you would expect it to off of the lot. Of course, the need to void the warranty and pay $650 is disheartening. But if you've already purchased the car, than, IMHO, you have no choice.

Default Cobb Tuner

For what it is worth, I have an older WRX. I simply commute to work (OK, fun drive around too when my wife isn't with me). I installed the Cobb tuner and it it elevated the performance from fun, to SUPER FUN. Recommended.
