Are you kidding?

That is one of the worst concepts Subaru has done, perhaps second worst, if the B5-TPH takes that cake.

ItalDesign produced the design that is the high point of Subaru's history.

If Subaru won't build me a new 3-door coupe, I might have to scour the rust-free southwest, and try to find an RX-II, and the front end from an XT, and combine the two, with a late model Subaru WRX STI drivetrain, along with an EG33+6-speed converted blue SVX. Resto-mod is going to become the only way to enjoy a slick-looking performance Subaru.

You have no vision, the B5-TPH could have been sweet!

@mattejb, both of those concepts, speaking aesthetically, are mighty hideous.

There are plenty of 3-door hatchback designs that are better looking than the B5-TPH.

Although, I do have to say, the B5-TPH had much cleaner surface development than most new Subarus do. The hideous headlight/grille treatment doesn't excuse that, but they could have kept the clean, simple surfacing.

With normal coupe-length doors, rather than gull-wings... and a normal drivetrain, the Hybrid Tourer would have made a better looking 3-door hatchback/shooting brake, than the B5-TPH would have.

To each his own because I thought both the B5-TPH and Hybrid Tourer concept vehicles were gorgeous explorations of possible future styling elements. I was particularly fond of the B5-TPH's front end treatment. While on topic, I believe Subaru should have kept their former Greek-born 'Advanced Design' chief Andreas Zapatinas on board.

^Thanks Bob. When the page brightens you can pretty much make out the body profile and some of the detail. I'd say that's the outline of the Impreza 5-door with a roof rack on it.

Here's a couple of links to some photos of the 2011 European version where it comes with either the NA 2.0 or the Diesel..

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/03/03/g...ot-any-better/

Here's a page of some good images that show what the content is on the 2011 and likely on the new one. More upscale interior along with somewhat more off rugged look than our OBS models.

I monkeyed in Photoslop, but can't get much more detail to pop out. Looks like metal roof rails and Subaru's eye-sight cameras.

Whoa! Never read about it. Really hideous (3-door?) wagon. All first four iterations of Legacy wagon looked far better. 4th of course being the best, then the 2nd.

Subaru Teases XV Concept, Is This the 2012 Impreza Outback Sport?
Evan McCausland on April 11 2011

By now, you’ve already seen a side view of the new 2012 Subaru Impreza sedan — but if you look closely at the photo above, you may have a sneak peek at the new Impreza in hatchback form.

The photo was released on Subaru’s global media site as a teaser for the new XV concept, which will debut at the Shanghai Motor Show at roughly the same time the new Impreza line breaks cover in New York. It’s difficult to discern much from this shadowy shot, but the front clip does bear a close resemblance to that of the U.S.-spec car.

Also implicating the Impreza lineage is the XV name itself. Presently, the Outback Sport — essentially an Impreza Wagon with body cladding, large wheels, and a slightly lifted stance — is sold in select markets as the Impreza XV.

A teaser site proclaims the XV concept is “a new generation crossover vehicle, blending exceptional SUV practicality with a fashionable form.” Similar marketing prose was used last year when the Euro-spec Impreza XV debuted at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show.

If it’s anything like its North American sibling, the XV will likely be equipped with the company’s new 2.0-liter gasoline horizontally-opposed four-cylinder, although a diesel engine offering — perhaps the company’s 2.0-liter turbo-diesel boxer-four — is likely to be offered to European customers. All-wheel-drive is assuredly part of the powertrain package, and a CVT will replace the current four-speed automatic in an attempt to improve fuel economy.

Will we see an XV on our shores? Subaru’s mum on the subject, but we’ve heard whispers that a five-door — and perhaps even a specialized model like the XV — are again slated for North America. Find out for certain on April 20th, when the 2012 Impreza publicly debuts at the 2012 New York auto show.
