McHale seemed to want to give away quite a bit more future vehicle info than Car Line Planning Manager Todd Hill. Darn it, Todd, just let McHale have his way.
Why can't they just call it "Impreza Sport"?

It is called the Impreza Sport now, and is available in Premium and Limited trim levels. The word "Outback" has been droppedówhich leads me to believe that the Impreza XV may indeed be in the works. When asked, the only comment I got from SOA execs was that that they're waiting to see what the response is from Shanghai.

Well the response on this side of the Pacific is good. I'd think this would go over well in Australia too.

So the "SPORT" version is the lifted, taller, soft-roader?

Not a better equipped more powerful FB25 powered car with a 6MT upgrade over the 5MT?

That is going to confuse people, if it is true. Sport not meaning a sporty car, but an outdoorsy car. :unimpressed:

From what I can tell, the Sport and Sport Limited are the 5 door models.

Remember what the "S" in SUV stands for. There are more sports than motorsports.

No the Sport model is moving away from the outdoorsy image. Like the Outdoor Sport it will be available as a 2-tone model, although I haven't seen that version. I suspect that 2-tone model will be in low-demand/production.

You mean those that have bought the Outback SPORT (aka: OBS) for the past 15+ years have been confused about the "sportiness" of it?

The key word was OUTBACK.

Sport was the indicator that it wasn't the big Legacy based outback, but the smaller, more nimble Impreza-based outback.

And in most car-related discussion, SPORT tends to refer to the performance of the car, not some other unrelated outdoor-sport activity.

I blame the term Sport Utility Vehicle, which also had almost nothing to do with the performance aspects of the vehicle.

So the 5-door is available in: 2.0i base, 2.0i Premium, 2.0i Sport Premium, 2.0i Limited, 2.0i Sport Limited? Sport Premium is effectively the new OBS, and Sport Limited is that + leather, auto climate, better stereo (4.3" screen). I guess the silver Sport shown here and here is the Sport Premium. The trim levels say Sport gets a silver-painted grille. I guess that's the (normally chrome) grille ring and "wings," not the grille mesh.

While I'd still like the ground clearance of the XV, that Sport Limited may be enough to win me over. (I suppose it'll hit $25k w/ moonroof... about what the 4th gen Legacy limited ran.)

Also, all Limiteds come standard with the CVT.

So, no off-pavement Impreza (aka Outback Sport/XV) in the initial launch, then.

Looking at the trim levels in WraithAkaMrak's post above, the only difference between a Limited and a Sport Limited would be roof rails, body-colored rocker panels and a silver-painted grille. That's a pretty lame model differentiation, IMHO. I would want probably want a Sport simply for the roof rails, however, unless they're available as an add-on on the other trims.

Definitely leaves a spot for the XV in the lineup. Call it an Impreza Sport XV and consider bringing a turbo version of it... Impreza Sport XV-T. That would definitely add "fun" to the lineup, IMHO, and be a bit of a spiritual successor to the departed Outback XT. I've gotta go put that in the Suggestions thread.

Hip2b█, it was an IMPREZA Outback Sport, sport. You're really reaching here.
