Default OBDII inspection and AFI

I am thinking of starting a new project and one of my thoughts is picking up an GC8 RS, getting a bolt on turbo kit and bolting in an STi shortblock to make more power. CT now includes an OBD scan with emissions so I am wondering if there are any kits that include an EM solution that will net decent power and not throw CEL.

Sorry if this is a noob question.

Doubt it - none of the current EM solution addresses OBD II. It's piggy back with OBD II checking, or PEMS/Fully-managed throwing a CEL

w/ obd2, all you can do is use a piggy back. standalones dont use an OBD2 port.

when i talked to one of the guys at TWE when i bought my headers we started talking about standalone engine management and he suggested that i run independent engine management in parallel with my stock ecu. what he said was to run wires coming from the engine to the ecu and the aftermarket standalone and then only run the standalone wires that control the engine to the engine, has anyone tried this before?

the greddy emanage is a pretty good piggyback solution. Its about the best you'll get and still have OBD2

I had it professionally dyno tuned and make small changes on the road.

Another option is to run a full standalone unit 364 days of the year. Use a reflashed computer for your OBDII testing. It should run well enough to pass.

I love how the STi/WRX guys have no clue what aftermarket forced induction is.

(Hint: There are no reflashed ECU's for RS's.)

Your not to smart are ya.

I am running a TEC 3 and stilll have my 95 ECU. There is no way I could pass an obd2 scan. I bet I am pulling around 10 codes. I know all 4 cly will have missfire, no o2 going to the oem ecu, there is no timing signal going to it. It cant contorll spark so I bet that will throw a cel.

How much power can be made with eManage? If you had an STi block with say an FP Green does it offer enough tuning to make the same 400 whp that the STi will make with the same turbo?

eh that's kind of a loaded question. The exhaust piping is going to be different, different heads, fuel rails, intake manifold, etc. You can't really compare just a block and turbo because there are tons of supporting things that can make a difference. Timing shouldn't really be much of an issue, but you could be running out of room with the fuel control. I don't remember the exact number but the e-manage can only handle +/- 200-250% sized injectors. So you might not be able to control the massive injectors you'd need for 400whp. At that point you're probably better off just doing a complete swap and using the complete STi engine with ECU.

That is what I plan on doing eventually. My piggybacks R not working very consistantly right now. If something breaks as a result, I want to do USDM engine/ECU/wiring harness and some kind of durable 5spd swap.
