X-ice or blizzaks.
:O whats this? Lilpnoy jump ship??? Nope, didnt think anyone would have noticed anyways. With the mild winters of Southeast Alaska I would recommend studless tires.

Thanks for the recommendations guys. Are all these pretty good in deeper snow? My foz has decent clearance enough to wander out in thicker snow. Thats why I figured the deep tread of the altimax would be good.

I have altimax's on my car, and my car is quite low. It does just fine :-)

There USED to be a site "www.coldspeed.net" back in the day that was a juneau version of AKMS/MSAK. However after just typing it in my browser it seems no longer "up".

I take it there aren't any race tracks of any sort in Juneau? dragstrip or otherwise. How bout auto x setups? Or anything? Ill take whatever I can get.

Also are there any places to take a jeep offroad in the area legally or 4 wheelers? Just trying to feel out my options for motorsports.

Id like to do the big lake ice races in anchorage if I can make it up that way.

Yeah baldy mountain is really fun for wheelin! Also Jim creek is good. Lots of silt. But if you venture far enough out, you can make it to the glacier.

Jim creek is the sandy glacier valley of knik glacier. Take the back way into Palmer (from anchorage) across the old bridge, the trail head and parking lot is on the same street as Alaska Raceway Park (drag strip, by the butte).

That entire area is commonly called "jim creek" and you can actually drive all the way to knik glacier, provided that your rig can safely cross jim creek , Friday creek, the beaver ponds and finally Metal Creek (which is either trivial, or the End Boss of the trip depending on water level, snow melt, rainfall etc).

You may just have to wait to get up there to find out. No real organized racing there, may have some under radar stuff. Growing up there, I didnt do much car stuff till I moved up to Anchorage.

You might also have some luck checking out alaska4x4network. There may be some trail riders from SE Alaska that could give additional insight, for at least the offroad bits.

Thanks for the tips. I know there are tons of places above Haines and all over the rest of AK but I think ill have few choices in juneau. I might have to modify/change up some hobbies. Ill be bringing a fishing boat so that and hunting will probably take up a chunk of time.

I suppose that's a hint that there are some interesting and questionable activities in North Douglas.
