In all honesty, I don't know the exact technical reason why. I just know it's dangerous. While it may be ok for awhile, I wouldn't run it long term. It's probably on Google. I mean, it's your car, do what you want. But to me, there's two things I don't skimp on: brakes, suspension. The two things that can kill you if they fail.

I agree with you. I just did a quick google and people seem to think its fine for a little while but not long term. I guess cutting springs changes the spring rates and, in effect the suspension geometry of the car.

Yeah, I knew there was some technical reason.. I'd either go springs (RSR makes some specifically for our car), or go coils. If you go coils, supposedly the 08+ WRX ones bolt right up. So choose your brand.

Everyone can have an opinion on what they want to do and they can change their mind. I wanted to lower mine so I got the sti front lip to make it look good then decided to raise it up and don't want the lip. Things change, he has had some good post, some people talk for pages about stupid **** like windshield wipers or something else. Either way cutting springs changes a lot about how a suspension works and ya the safety of cars.

Could someone take some close-up photos of the gap between the hood and the bumper? Especially the headlights and the wedge-shaped parts of the hood in front.

My hood and bumper were replaced after a deer collision and they didn't line it up right. The gap is about twice as big as it should be, and the body shop was just playing dumb saying they didn't know how big the gap is supposed to be.
Otherwise I'll just take some photos at the dealership next time I go in for service.

Was there no subaru collision repair center nearby?

It always amazes me how cheap people will try to get on repairs and then complain when it's done incorrectly.

Edit : not saying that's what you did. I was just putting my thoughts out there.

Default Knocking Sound Normal?

Just wanted some opinions on these engine sounds before I go to the dealer. The car only has 3,100 miles on it. The clickity clickity clickity sound has pretty much been with the car from the start (guessing valves). I feel like recently the less frequent knock.........knock.......knock as become louder. Seems to be most audible when accelerating between 0 and 30 MPH, as well as when idling. Beyond 30mph there's usually too much other road/wind noise to hear the knocking, however the clickity sounds are still there. The car was warmed up and driven several miles before this video was taken. The knocking sound is easier to hear in the video when I move to the passenger side of the engine.

This comes up a lot. The engines are ****ing loud. Your previous car probably had an engine cover. Even if it was just a really thin plastic case, it reduces noise a LOT.

Your car's fine.

Here's a shot of my engine with the driver's side cam cover off at 30K miles. The car has seen nothing but Mobil1 0W20, changed every 5K miles. Filters were a mix of TR, PureOne and Mobil1.

Well the picture is pretty blurry...so does it look good or bad? Why was the cover pulled?

It looks great, no sign of deposits or varnish.

The cover was removed to add an oil return port for a bypass filter.

Question for anyone who has added them, or who works at a dealership..

The add-on chrome trim for the front grille center "bar", the ones you can order through Subaru, are those held on with 3M double-back, or screwed through? Just trying to see how they're attached. Thanks!

Ordered my Subaru badges of ownership last night. Great marketing idea for Subaru to send those free of charge.

Are you talking about the pieces line with the Subaru Badge as seen in this picture? Top down... if so, they each have two screws and I think it was one clip.

Yes, the middle "bar" that is split into two.

If it was held on with 3M, I'd get that and spray it black so I could go back to silver if I need to, but I guess I'll just spray mine then..

Thanks!

Just spray? No sand and paint? I was thinking something a little more permanent but weary to find a paint to match the rest of the black grill don't like the offset shade look.

The "spray" includes prep too. Didn't think I had to specify. haha

A fellow member used the one type of flat black labeled as "professional" since it was supposedly more heavy-duty, and thus more resistant to road debris chips. I will likely go the same route. I wanted to get the optional mesh grille, but I actually kinda like the stock grille, the middle bar just has to be blacked out to match though..

If it's something you're doing soon, take some pictures. Interested in the results!

Don't forget you can vinyl wrap easily too! Much better protection.

Did you have to remove the pieces to wrap? Never tried wrap before..

And will do!
