So while I haven't done or seen any before/after intake tests on a stage 2 + E85 setup, I imaging it won't be too dissimilar from a regular stage 2 gas setup, which generally has single or very low double digit gains from an intake..
kinda what i figured, no intake for me!

I decided to install some polyurethane exhaust hangers. I ordered a set of 4 of the Torque Solution standard sized on Amazon, but I was sent 5... so I replaced all of them. Sometimes when I got on it hard while going around a turn I could hear the exhaust make contact, so I figured I'd replace the stock rubber hangers.

Thanks for the thread very informative, btw I am an old guy too 42 , helped me a lot on deciding to do a stage 2 on my 13 WRX sedan. I already have the Q-300 installed (love the sound) very quiet, COBB AP, drop in K&N filter. For stage 2 I am going with the Maddad V2 DP, Forge BPV, Bulletproof TMIC kit, and thinking instead of a pro tune just getting a Torqued Performance stage two map for $85. Anything else I should tackle while I am at it? Any opinions appreciated.

Short throw and shifter bushings. Cobb or kartboy.

Takes most of the slop of out shifting and I love the feeling and sound of "click click" when I shift.

Its a pretty inexpensive mod too

Sam, sounds like you're heading in the right direction to me. I know choosing an exhaust for the sedan is definitely different than the hatch, but it sounds like you already have that part worked out. Good luck with the rest!

I've been planning on getting the kartboy shifter/bushings and some sway bars since I got my WRX, but still haven't pulled the trigger. Maybe later this summer...

while you're under there, it would make your wrench time more productive by also installing a group n tranny mount and some tranny cross member bushings. you have to pull that cross member off to get to the shifter bushings anyways. they also improve shift feel, as well as power transfer. they increase NVH a bit, but the increase in sound in very pleasing to me.

p.s. this thread is awesome. i just came across it.

Thank you for this thread, this is exactly what I've been hoping to find in the forums and you worded it perfectly. I have the feeling if I had tried it I'd get flamed and the thread locked.

Ordered all my stuff tonight for the jump to stage 2.

Maddad V2 DP & new gaskets

Bullet Proof TMIC Kit

Forge BOV

COBB heat shield

Perrin DP blanket

PTP Turbo blanket

Do you guys think I will be ok initially if I run the COBB stage 2 map on my AP? I should add that I am keeping the stock air box with a drop in K&N. I was thinking about ordering the Torqued Performance stage 2 map but might just get a pro tune instead. If anyone has any input I would really appreciate it. Anyway think I am done with my mods for the most part these parts added to my Q-300 CB, sways and end links, Short shifter bushings, should be good to go.

The Cobb map is designed for the stock airbox with the stock air filter so I would rule that out. I would get either the Torqued Performance tune or a custom tune. It depends on whether you think the extra money spent on the custom tune is worth it. I think it's worth it.

The nice part about going with something from Torqued Performance vs OTS Cobb map is that you can send your logs to him and have them check to make sure all is good. I think you'll probably get a better map from TP, plus the verification of the logs afterward. If you go with a pro tune, it would probably depend on the price as far as which is the "better deal".

i went stage 2 with a cobb ots map about a month ago... it felt great and really got good improvement of power out of my little td04. i then bought a TP map last week and reflashed... what an amazing improvement over the cobb map!! i was shocked at the difference, and still have yet to fully run it through the paces. i need to get some good logs first, and then send it in for review. i should get a chance this weekend.

my power mods are a cobb sf intake and airbox, maddad bellmouth DP, forge BPV, stock "premium" catback. (my exhaust is different looking compared to the base and limited wrx's...) been planning on making myself the BP mod, as well as t-bolt my TB to IC hose, and probably replace it with a AVO hose. this thread was so funny to stumble across, considering how similar all of our setups are!

36 yr old owner of a 13 STI. Wanted to ask my fellow "Old Men" what you consider are the most necessary mods for a safe Stage 2? I'm thinking DP (obviously), EBCS, aftermarket TMIC, fuel pump and turbo blanket and heat shield. Did I miss something?

Thanks for the info on the TP map, further helps me decide to pull the trigger on the TP map. It is funny how a lot of people are running these very similar mods after reserching, I was also pretty much doing everything the OP was, but I did learn a few things such as the Forge BPV, and the BP TMIC mod.

They're optional, but a quality bypass valve and injectors wouldn't hurt. The stock bypass valve is plastic and tends to leak at higher boost levels.

Yeah I figured a quality BPV would be appropriate. Guessing I'll go with Forge as they seem to make a quality part. Any recommendations for injector manufacturers?

Safe Stage 2 is expensive. Looking at nearly $3,400.00 right now. Oh well. No kids and a supportive wife makes this reasonable.

I disagree. What you need:

- catted downpipe

- gauges

- good tune

Optional:

- catback

- EBCS

- turbo and downpipe wrap

You do not need injectors. Stock injectors flow more than enough for stage2 loads. I can hit 10.6 AFR with 290 g/s flow rate at redline. Typical stage2 tune will target 11:1 AFR or leaner at redline which tells you that the injectors can easily keep up.

The stock BPV is perfectly fine. Last time I checked, it's not plastic. It holds 19psi no problem. Why would you replace it if the stock unit is well calibrated and will probably respond better than anything you can buy out there.

The stock TMIC is more than capable, especially once you wrap the turbo and the downpipe. The proximity of the turbo to the TMIC is not the best but it can be remedied with a good wrap. My IATs are only 6F above ambient during normal driving. That's roughly a 10F difference than what I saw before. My TMIC is always cold now which greatly improves its efficiency.

this is 100% incorrect. maybe on cobbs stage 2. my car with just a downpipe and a tp stage 2 tune my injectors are at 100% duty cycle. i am adding injectors and pump in may just for this reason..

Older guys always put themselves down! Do what you like and dont let others judge you and if they do, who cares! My dad is in his late forties and he has a very loud 550hp 2011 STi. Nobody judges him for his age!

08+ wrxs have different BPV, TMIC, and IM than the STi. lots of plastic! i swapped my plastic BPV to remedy this strange off throttle "squeak" i was getting between 3k to 2k.

i tried modifying my stock one first, but it only changed where in my RPM band the squeak was happening. others have had great success with the mod though.

Quoted for truth. I have a TP stage one and IDC's are high as well.

Nothing wrong with doing injectors just to relieve the idc's a bit and if you decide to go with a bigger turbo you already have fueling handled.. Im doing the same thing for my TP stage 2.

Big rob what injectors are you going with?

Like I said, you don't need injectors but typically IDC is high at even stage 2 levels so it is a good idea. Also, the STI intercooler and bypass valve are fine, but the WRX comes with a plastic bypass valve which leaks and the intercooler has plastic endtanks that can separate at higher boost levels.
