![]() As the title states. Im about to do this within the next month since i have to replace my clutch but i am curious how many people have done this. I read a lot of talk but no follow ups. What are the benefits if any? I have a perfect working ej20g non closed deck and i got a deal on a ej20h long block. all i have to do is swap over the manifolds(intake/exhaust) and all sensors and this should work right? will my ej20g ecu get retarted even though im running same turbo and injectors? I jsut want your 2 cents. if you think its not worth it or there in no gain please chime in.

![]() No gain, no loss. Just plug the oil and coolant lines on the LH side head.

![]() People have been doing this for years as a cheap fix when their tired Ej20G gives up the ghost. It's practically an identical replacement...

![]() Maybe the EJ20H pistons are a little bit beefier but I don't really remember...

![]() I just thought they had a little higher dome for a touch more compression...

![]() I thought the dish was a bit more shallow on an EJ20H and the pistons a bit heavier, but it's been a few years back since I last built a short block using EJ20H parts.

![]() hey guys,
I'm attempting the same conversion, I blew my ej20g and got an ej20h longblock for a hyper cheap price. I'm just about ready to put the motor in the car but was wondering if anyone can clear up what sensors need to be swapped? I've read a lot about the EJ20R Cam/Crank sensors needing to be swapped but I haven't been able to find anything specific for the EJ20H -> EJ20G swap. some gotcha's that I came across thus far: 1) Oil/Coolant feeds/returns need to be plugged on the one side 2) Coolant (feed I think?) is on the far side of the turbo now instead of directly underneath. anyone have a solution for this? the only thing I can think of is to S a line from the one side to the other. 3) Said coolant line is touching the up-pipe. my only solution is to wrap both the up-pipe and coolant line with heat wrap. 4) metal coolant lines that run from the thermostat behind the timing cover had to be swapped 5) Engine mounts look completely different but appear as if they will fit. I have yet to test it. If I'm missing anything, any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

![]() re use the coolant stuff from your g.
nothing wiring/sensor wise has to be changed. the h is literally a g with another turbo and intake manifold |

![]() That is excellent news
![]() Yeah the main coolant crossover is completely different and I will be using my G's. is there any way to take the hard coolant line out of the head and swap them? they look to be pressed in... the way they are lined up now I gotta put together a serious mickey mouse hose to make the ends meet. here's a pic of the EJ20H coolant line: ![]() and here's the EJ20G line: ![]() As you can see, mating the EJ20H with the stock turbo is a PITA. |

You can get that off no problem and replace it with the G line. Just be careful getting the G one out of the head. |

![]() That's my plan of record. I'm just anxious about having that coolant line pressed against the up-pipe.. I'll bend it a bit and wrap everything up.
Thanks for the help I'm feeling 139873298479324732 times better about this swap. |

How do I get the line out? pry it out with a flat head? I've never dealt with lines like this before... I don't wanna start prying at it and break something :/ |

![]() gahhh.... and there's no issues with tapping it back in and having it seal? I would hate to go through all that trouble and it doesn't seal...
Edit: would a propane torch help at all with taking it out? Last edited by luka; 04-08-2013 at 04:45 PM. |

![]() duly noted.
I opted to take the hard line off the turbo but because I have the TD05h the line is sitting much lower 'cause of the larger cartridge so the bend is extremely tight. gonna swing by the local auto chop and see if I can go through all their hoses to find something that will work. |
