Upgrades advice!??
Ok guys so hears the deal...i would like opinions on possible upgrades. I have a limit of 1k-1500. Currently whats on the car is an Injen CAI short ram...aftermarket down pipe but im unable to see what brand...and a straight pipe all the way back. Now the tune set up from my tuner tells me everything on my comp has it at stock. Yes i know i need a tune an have a separate fund for that so plz dont recommend that. After reading so many reviews i will stay away from the AP for now so dont recommend that either.
I dont have any specific gains in mind i am simply wishing to start building. So i would like recommendations on mods. Now the mods that i listed were not my installs. Trust me...if u lived in the Purdue area you def could hear my car from a few miles away...yes its that loud. And the douche who had it before me did a crappy weld job on the cheap tip from auto zone...an yes i know i need to get that trash off there too. My plan for the exhaust is the Invidia N1 exhaust due to recommendations an sound. (no im not doin it just for sound) So hit me up fellas an lemme know what u think and what i should do from here.

Just curious, when are you getting your car tuned?

If you've read enough threads, you'll also realize that questions are always pertaining to what your going to use the car for? What your end goal is with the car? Te reasons....so there is a basis to work off of and not recommend something that you'll be paying twice for it later down the road.
If you want the car to start reliably everyday, not have any sort of hiccups, not worry about it...leave it completely stock and make sure it's a stock map in the car...having a dowpipe and a CAI would make that car run a bit off on a stock map. Since there is naturally maint. required on a car, especially of that age and possibly higher mileage, make sure your spending the money where it needs to be put. Maintenance is the most crucial aspect of a Subaru, well, any performance oriented or vehicle that will see some spirited driving. 1500 cap, there are more than a few things you can do, higher ticket items to allow for huge and massive power gains, not so much, but starting to get yourself in that direction with porting of the intake, exhaust manifolds, TGV deletes, electronic boost control solenoid and what not is a start. You may also want to get the turbo looked at to ensure that it's in proper working order, turbo inlet for tears, and maint. service intervals to be performed (fluids, plugs, belts inspection for brakes, suspension and what not) and things of that nature. Remember, some years there is nearly 2.50 a mile in maint. costs. -Mark |

ah good point that is something i forgot to point out. Its an 04 with 86k on it. all the records i have point to it being well maintained except for the last issue when the pulley came off the shaft on the water pump. The subaru dealer had new complete heads put in. I know this not only from putting it on the lift at work but hahaha they also left the parts invoice and repair orderd crumpled up under the seat where im guessing they forgot. As far as goals, alot of you are going to call me crazy...hell even stupid but this IS what i want. I do want this car to do alil bit of these but mostly the last one, I am wanting rallyx, autocross, and drift.
Yes i know i know for the haters and the unbelievers out there im tired of hearing well u should have bought a RWD car. Well you know what guys i didnt an i think its about dam time that Subaru makes there mark out there. Do i dream of making it big an getting loads of sponsors and possibly doing WRC and Formula D...hell ya who doesnt but this is my dream an goal an i want to get there. But good idea on getting the turbo looked at. Once the first snow falls i actually plan on pulling it off and sending it out to my local performance shop an having them check it out. Now as far as the intake....it might seem like an extreme but i have got wind that im getting the Cosworth intake for Xmas so pretty stoked an yes i KNOW i will need a tune after getting that beast installed. And yes i know i have to use a FMIC kit...which i already purchased from a buddy on here. |
