Is this a Sim game? Rural ISP with the GFY expansion pack?

I knew a guy that had a DUAL ISDN connection, and he resold it to his neighbors as a dialup service.

Capacitor and motor were bad. Close to $1k including the emergency Sunday call. Surprisingly he didn’t try to upsell me on anything or tell me I needed more.

Damn... mine happened on Monday so we waited until Tuesday. Similar components failed though. Ouch on the markup for Sunday.

I've blown three of those in the five years I've been here in Arizona. Renting, FTW.

Networking isn't my bag. I/we deal with far more than 50 clients and I can troubleshoot enough to confidently pass a problem to a network after looking at running configs and confirming I have very little idea what any of means. Shut/no shut doesn't fix it.... done. I wouldn't know off hand why 50 clients would be an issue with ISP level network gear being realistically affordable for people wanting to run something like a neighborhood wan. But I seriously wouldn't know where to start looking for a problem with throughput in network gear.

I'm still waiting for a convincing explanation outside of obvious naming concerns why two default routes send people into a rage.

"when you got here, things worked"

"yes"

"nothing should have two default routes you say?"

"yes"

"you changed the network config and no one anywhere can get to the system now"

"yes"

"what problem did you solve?"

"..."

"good chat."

Same guy asked for help troubleshooting some new stuff. Looking through things and everything indeed looked right but then two default routes don't keep me up at night. Lemme just walk to the back of the rack, hmmm, see what happens plugging in this here network cable.

"that fix it?"

"... ... yes"

No need to keep a log of networking issue fixed by someone that doesn't 'get' two default routes will bring hell on earth for a pod person that screams when they see it. The guy is extremely sharp with no short term memory of how red he gets when I'm fixing things he broke doing what he tought was right but not accounting for everything we do is wrong. To work, it has to be exactly the counter of what you think it should be and tell the person that can't touch our stuff to turn on their GD networking and try again before you change the configs. "IT'S WRONG IT SHOULD BE LIKE THIS" Sure but my last fuk was used, good luck.

... "so.... you were right."

can you say that slower and a little more breathy, i'm almost there

Exactly what shiplemw suggested. Parts cost is about $100 or so. The last time I needed a blower motor I got it on Amazon and with Prime shipping. Does seem odd both the motor and cap failed.

I'm in the wrong line of work.....

Oh well. Money / time have a different value to all of us. If this would have happened right after one of our kids were born and it was 100*+ here. Pretty sure I would have paid anything to get it fixed right the f- now.

The hotel Im staying at recently replaced the thermostat/temp setters on each room.
Now they got one that will automatically shut off the A/C if there is no movement around the room. Think Smart Thermostat, but cheaper, and dumber.

And here is the gripe.
I change the thermostat to 70 (from 75 which is the default) for sleeping. The A/C starts cooling the room, and then it turns off the A/C after the timeout period. Last night I woke up constantly due to the room being too hot, and i had to dance in front of the thermostat just so it would start up the A/C again.

wtf, did no one thought of this through?

True! There's something to be said about not having to wait when it's not just your comfort.

Just received a call that was identified as the Sheriff's office by my Caller ID app. I answered, you could heard some shuffling and then they hung up. I'm wondering if it's someone spoofing important numbers to try and get you to answer. Or someone really screwed up their one phone call.

Adulting. I wanted to go to a concert on Saturday, but instead had to pay for (and wait for) a plumber to show up and diagnose my hot water heater issue. Being a grownup sucks.

...also, so does paying a plumber to tell you what you already know.

Why are you trying to heat water that is already hot? I don't think a plumber can help with that.

Noticing how disgusting the can of *insert beverage of choice here* you've had your lips wrapped around only after you've finished drinking it.

Yep. I've gone both routes in the past.

Weather is fairly mild, figured out it was a $30 relay on the outside unit. 5 minutes of labor needed to fix it. Problem was no HVAC supply place would sell me the part because I wasn't "licensed". Finally found a guy across town who would sell me the part.

Another time it was a capacitor, again with tolerable weather. It was a cheap part on Amazon. 2 days later I had the part and fixed it myself.

The last time the inside unit blower didn't operate. It was July, and my attic was 130F. I was pretty sure it was the motor cap, but I really didn't want to kill myself in that heat troubleshooting it. Even if I did find the problem, nobody was likely to sell me the part and I wasn't willing to wait on Amazon.

So I paid a guy to come do all that, knowing they'd likely have the part already in the their truck. Sure enough, bad capacitor, and he had two smaller ones he rigged to make it work.

It's getting so bad that wiping it down with your shirt or napkin isn't good enough anymore. You practically have to wash it off.

At work I've theorized that the beverage delivery guy that fills the machines is personally pissing on the cans, shoveling dirt and gravel onto them, then sprinkling bits of broken glass on top.

Nobody thought I was wrong.

with a system like this, i'm sure they though it through plenty. Sounds like maybe its working as planned, just...not in your benefit
