Default OT Fitness/Strength Thread 2011 v2.0

Well 2010 was a heck of a year for many of us. 2011 is rolling in and with it the new goals for new people. What will it bring for you guys?

My big goal for 2010 was to bench 500 in competition. I did that, and have been looking for a new goal for a while. 2011 will bring a refined direction for me, being strong but better conditioned. I'd like to lose some fat, drop a waist size or two, and one of the big departures for me is that I'm going to run a 5k sometime in 2011. I won't be setting any speed records, but my plan is to just complete it without walking.

2011 will also see me working directly with a few of you yoots with block periodization. This isn't for beginners (yet, I'm testing it on some beginners at work who have only set foot in a gym a dozen times in their lives!), but it does work, works well, but believe me when I say it ain't easy. I'll keep it to 2 or 3 for now but if people like it, will open it up to whoever wants.

I may try to bench 5+ again, it's highly likely this will be at a lighter body weight. We'll see.

On to new and big things, welcome 2011!

What do you guys want from 2011?

P.S. I added "strength" to the title for the cry babies in 2010. You know who you are, and you ought to be ashamed of yourselves, lmao.

I am very curious to see what you actually eat, and how much you eat of it.

Foam Rolling, Warm-ups, Ab Work

Squat
Bar x 5
175 x 5 - knee sleeves
225 x 5 - mineral iced knees
275 x 5
330 x 5 - solid set
370 x 3 - unracked weight with too wide a stance; sloppy set
415 x 1 - easy
445 x 0, 0 - unracked weight and didn't like it. Reset and tried again - no better.

BW = 200 lbs

Right knee hurt a bit on my first set. Slapped some mineral ice on it and was good to go. Used a slightly wider stance when unracking 370. Had some issue with the walk out. First rep was high and sloppy. Second rep okay. Third rep to the basement and solid. 415 felt like 225. I didn't have it for 445. I couldn't get set-up tight enough. Could I have done it - yes. I had gotten all my work done and 445 was just some extra, heavy reps. Instead of pushing it, I throttled back.

I've increased my warm-up work. I'm putting my ab work at the front of my workout and it keeps me from skipping it. I'll probably add some light good-mornings in there too.

I'm changing my goals y'all. I wanted to get a lot stronger, and I did. My bench went up 40%, Squat 80%, SOHP - 60%, and I over doubled my DL's I hit my marks. Now, a new focus.

Strength Highlights of 2011 - 1rm

Weight 164
  • Bench - 275 Incline- 235 - Decline- 315
  • DL: 365
  • Squat: 355
  • SOHP: 185
  • Sitting OHP: 205

I feel tough. I feel rugged. I feel like I've earned my keep. The hardest part was eating. The moment I stopped, I'd lost significant weight. But I need to focus more on Cardio. I need to decrease my mile time, and prepare for the zombie apocalypse.

Hi everyone - thought it would be a good time to post with the new thread.

Been working out for 1.5 years now and just recently started lifting heavy and going for 1RM:

Bench: 205
Squat: 245
Deadlift: 365

BW: 150

I want to reach 225 for bench, 275 for squat, and 405 for dl by new years, but that's probably being too optimistic.

Are you doing a certain program, or just whatever you have come up with in the last year and a half?

A buddy introduced me to the basic 5x5 about a year ago and it's what I've been doing for the most part. I stopped around April when I joined a Dragonboat team and they suggested more endurance training. But now the season is over so I'm back to 5x5
