I suppose a riddle would have been better

I don't see the need to keep her super clean either. I vacuum before/after big trips and wash when forecasts look good for more than a few days. Ends up being a wash once a month and two or so interior touch-ups.

I'd rather be driving it than washing it.

I didn't think it was a big deal until I realized how unimpressed I feel when I see an older WRX/STI with all these amazing performance mods paired with an atrocious paint job. Not that Ben's paint is atrocious, from afar and in photos it looks very nice. But I'm sure under the right light it must be riddled with swirl marks =P. I guess I'm just more anal about keeping my car aesthetically pleasing.

Yeah, If I'm dealing with my car I'd rather be driving it, or making it go faster

Mine still looks pretty good to me. From up close you can certainly see the swirl marks though.

I swapped out the TurboSmart Kompact for another Forge BPV a few days ago. The TurboSmart Kompact is very quiet. Nearly silent. The Forge is a bit louder and sounds quite good. After trying all sorts of valves the Forge is still one I really like.

Today I just put on the TurboSmart Dual Port. I've wanted to try this one out for a while! It looks like a really, really nice product. Excellent build quality. Probably the nicest once I've had on the car. Hopefully it works well.

I have the same BOV I run it fully closed though. it's still quite loud though I really like it. it's not annoying loud like the HKS and doesn't sound ricey, just sound aggressive.

My TurboSmart Kompact doesn't seem that quiet. Sure it's not BOV volume, but I can DEFINITELY hear it.

How do you run it fully closed? Is there a plug to put in the VTA side? I got it used and it didn't come with any extra stuff. This valve seems like a combo of the GFB 50/50 and the TurboXS 50/50. It has the trumpet like the GFB so it sounds really crisp. But it has a sequential piston design like the TurboXS (recirculates first, then as the valve opens more it vents to atmosphere). This helps to stop backfires and stalling if it does not fully seat quick enough. Due to this design you can set the spring tension low to avoid surge/flutter (while still not getting backfires or stalling). It is exactly what I've been searching for!

I only drove it a few minutes but is seems awesome so far. Blows off super easy. Nice and quiet at low boost but decently loud and very crisp at higher boost. No compressor surge AND no backfires so far. With the other valves it always seemed like one or the other. The build quality is incredible and so far the performance matches that. I love it so far!

You can hear mine but it's the quietest valve I've tried. Quieter than the Forge. It's a really nice valve for the money though. I'm surprised more people don't go with it over the Forge.

I have an ACT HD pressure plate, ACT Street Light Flywheel, and ACT 4 Puck Clutch Disk. I've had this setup for about 6 months now, and I've always had chatter when starting from a standstill. If I was on flat ground or a downslope, and wasn't rushed, I could really take my time and it would start with minimal chatter. But if I was uphill or rushed in any way I could get terrible shuddering. I thought I might get used to it, but after 6 months of driving I decided to give this a shot.

On the newer cars the CDV is integrated into the slave cylinder. All you have to do it remove a large bolt/plug from the back of the slave cylinder and then pull the CDV components out. You can do this without unhooking the slave cylinder from the line. I would recommend unbolting it from the tranny and lifting it up so you don't make a mess. All you'll need is a 24mm wrench for the CDV and a 14mm socket for removing the slave cylinder from the tranny. Here is more info:

http://www.3gwrx.com/forum/index.php/topic,23874.0.html

And here are the parts you have to pull out:

During the process you shouldn't lose any fluid, but you do let a bunch of air into the system, so you will have to bleed it. Once I had the slave cylinder back together and bolted back onto the car, I replaced my fluid with ATE SuperBlue. The whole process does not take long. Probably 5-10min to pull the CDV and 5-10min to bleed the system. Very simple overall.

After doing this I have nearly ZERO chatter. I can basically drive it like normal, and it works perfectly. It is almost like stock again. I will have no problems driving this around town without any shuddering at all. I am very happy with how it turned out. And I can't believe I waited so long to do it! Highly recommended for anyone with a puck-style clutch!

Does Turbosmart have any relations to Go Fast Bits? Just curious cause they look pretty much the same.

Yeah, they do look very similar. The overall operation is basically the same too. And they're both from Australia. I don't know if they are actually related companies though. A few difference are: The bolt on top of the GFB vs. the screw on top of the TS. The GFB uses a bolt to adjust spring pre load and the TS uses the whole top turning. The GFB has a fixed nipple for the vacuum signal, and the TS has a rotating fitting.

The GFB uses a polymer seal at the bottom of the valve for the piston to seat against (I think). The TS has a seal on the bottom of the piston itself. I think the seal on both of these valves helps put them above items like the TurboXS and Forge, because I'm sure they don't seal quite as well (metal on metal).

A big difference is that the GFB has a rotating sleeve that allows for instant changing of the recirculation vs. VTA. This is a pretty nifty feature. The only downside is that you can only do 100% of one or the other, or a mix. You can't have both fully open, like on the TurboSmart.

I like them both. I'm sure there are subtle geometry differences that cause the valves to respond differently as well. I didn't measure any of the pistons or other surfaces to know for sure though. I think this may be why I found the TS to work better than the GFB.

Haha thanks for the comparison! Learned a few new things about my GFB hybrid. Lol too bad it didn't come with a block off for 100% VTA. I wanted to mess around with that for *****'s and giggles.

On the GFB Respons you should be able to turn the collar and make it 100% VTA. If it's the older GFB 50/50 valve, then you would need the block off plug.

Tonight I made an attempt at combining multiple exposures. Shot using a single strobe into a 45" umbrella. Took a bunch of shots, but only chose 4 to use. It ended up looking OK, but the reflections off of a black car are very hard to deal with. I'll have to try this with a more interesting background sometime.

Damnit that stance looks perfect. I need to get off my ass and order the RCE black springs. Konis have been sitting in the garage since May I think.

That's interesting. I've never thought about moving the light source for an HDR.

It's not HDR. Just multiple exposures combined. This is how nearly every manufacturer car photo is created for the ads you see in magazines.

umm.... not to internet argument or anything, but isn't a "high dynamic range" photo combining multiple exposures?

From Wikipedia:

High dynamic range imaging (HDRI or HDR) is a set of methods used in imaging and photography, to allow a greater dynamic range between the lightest and darkest areas of an image than current standard digital imaging methods or photographic methods. This wide dynamic range allows HDR images to represent more accurately the range of intensity levels found in real scenes, ranging from direct sunlight to faint starlight, and is often captured by way of a plurality of differently exposed pictures of the same subject matter.

Similar method is used to create the image, but not the same thing. I'm not doing anything to expand the dynamic range of my image. I am simply adding light to different areas. I would get the same result if I took a single image with multiple lights.

^^^ Add to that description that HDR images tend to look horrible and over-contrasted and blending exposures just looks like a real, well-lit image. That shot doesn't look HDR at all and you did a really good job putting those different shots together. I blend all the time and it is definitely not HDR.
