Default 17x7.5 42 offset...good or bad

I know offsets should be around 48 or so, is 42 too low? Most likely there will be rubbing right?

Thanks
Kurt

if your car is lowered, then yeah it will probably rub. but, either way, it's going to look fugly with the tires sticking outside the fender.

i could be wrong, not totally sure, but isnt that the distance from the mounting surface to the outside of the wheel.. and if it is, the wheels would be further inside the wheel well than a 48mm offset..

To quote my hero Jack Black, you can be and are wrong.

Offset is the distance from the center plane of the wheel (which is equidistant from both edges of the wheel) to the mounting face. Positive offset means the mounting face is towards the "outside" of the center plane, and negative offset means it is towards the "inside" of the center plane.

A +42mm offset means the mounting face is 6mm CLOSER to the center plane than a +48mm offset wheel, which pushes the wheel 6mm OUT from the car (assuming the same width), meaning it is NOT further into the wheel well.
