![]() It is nice. Looking forward to cherry blossom season coming soon.
I picked them up off of UPGARAGE for a bargain. I believe they're marketed as Junyan or Depot here. The OEM units were yellowing and had cracked mounting tabs for the front grill trim, so it was hard to pass up. I have a another good set of OEMs that I'm planning to put a UV clear coat on so they last longer, but these are good in the mean time. They don't look bad, but I like the OEM better.

![]() Well the bugeye is gone for a transmission overhaul and front diff replacement. Should be back by mid-late February, depending on how backed up the transmission shop is. According to my mechanic there aren't many shops doing this kind of work left in Japan.
Looking forward to getting Subie-chan back and driving like new. |

![]() Had some time to myself yesterday and the weather is starting to warm up, so I fixed some chipped resin on a used carbon wing I purchased from Yahoo Auctions. Still have to sand it back to see if I need another coat.
![]() Looks pretty good initially, but we'll see if there are any air pockets. There were a few other less noticeable spots that I also took care of, though I notice some things that I hadn't sanded back previously that maybe I should have. Everything should be fully cured by the time I get home tonight. I think I might have a chance to jump back on this project over the weekend. Last edited by Kochi_STi; 02-28-2022 at 01:32 AM. |

![]() Had some time Saturday afternoon to sand back the resin. It looks like I applied enough and there are no hidden air pockets to fill in, so I'm happy with that. Still some high spots to knock down before applying a clear coat. I'll be making time for that next week, as I'll be on holiday and the weather forecast looks pretty good.
![]() ![]() Here's the progression. ![]() Here's a template I made for the wing end plates. ![]() The bugeye is still at the mechanic's with transmission sent out to Subaru for it's overhaul. I checked with my mechanic a week ago and he said Subaru was still waiting on some parts, so that makes it over a month now without my car. Still got the beater kei car from the shop, so I'm saving lots of money on gas. Edit: Got a call from my mechanic this afternoon. Subaru go in touch with him yesterday about my transmission. Apparently they found a damaged gear that needs to be replaced as well, so that's the reason for the hold up. When we made the appointment for the work, a gear wasn't in the plan so they didn't prepare for that. It will take until the first week of April for them to get all the parts. So probably another month and a half without the bugeye. Gas prices in Japan are soaring as well, so I joked that my wallet was happy to have the kei for a while longer. Anyway, now I can stop wondering and stressing about it for awhile. Last edited by Kochi_STi; 03-09-2022 at 12:37 AM. |

![]() The bugeye came back about a week ago. The transmission is feeling really good. The Cusco front diff is still in the break-in period, about 200km more to go on that.
![]() ![]() Got all the work done in the wing while the bugeye was in the shop, so as soon as I had a bit of time I was able to put it on. I bought a shop press and a brake to make things nice and easy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I’m really happy with the look. The overall image I have for the exterior of this car is almost there. This summer, I’ll be putting on a carbon hood from Do-Luck and a scoop from Chargespeed. The scoop arrived this week. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
