This is what scares me the most:

C'mon mom, I really want this car, won't you and dad buy it for my 16th birthday?

(EEEEK!...)

Best bang for the buck you can spend on your car? DRIVER TRAINING!!!

...but the same could be said for almost any car. It's not Scooby-specific.

Hey, the dealer sent the WRX I originally ordered to the body shop (didn't buy that one). Didn't wrap it around a tree, but dropped a garage door on it. Bad things happen, even to good subarus...

I am not surprised at all.

The WRX (heck, even my outback) give you a false sense of security to do insane things on the road. But then when it all breaks free..... W TF do you do now? Most people have no clue and crash. Even people with clue crash, because once you reach that point you are a goner.

It has happened to me once, luckily there was nothing on the side of the road to hit and I didn't flip.

Since then I have been much more careful.

AWD will get you killed faster than 2WD.

The $/power/weight/crap stock tires ratio of the WRX is pretty bad. (ie cheap, fast, limit of stock tires pretty low).

Does anyone think that people are watching the television adverts, and getting a false sense of security?

I almost feel like the ads should say "You can do this with your WRX, but make sure you have the performance suspension kit, and get those RE92s off the car! Thank you for considering Subaru."

Like someone said, its not WRX specific. Even the best drivers crash, ever watch autoracing? Can't get any better than those guys and they still crash.

What Glenn Wallace said about the $/power/weight/cheap greasy stock tires rings very true with me. Although in my limited time w/my wrx, I have found the handling can be excellent when flinging it around open canyon roads at speed (near neutral handling, and obtained four wheel drifts), I was surprised when I took my wrx to an auto-x last weekend, and she understeered like a pig (with the stock tires and stock everything).

We had 4 WRX's show at this auto-x; all of us trying to run on the RE92's. It was an understeering party! The tire pressures were all over the place. One guy was bit of an auto-x ace pilot, so he had skid-pad tested his RE92s prior to the auto-x. He tried 60psi, 50psi, and finally decided to try 44psi all around for the auto-x. After two runs at the auto-x, it was understeering and skating so badly that he dropped them to 40 psi front and 35psi rear on pre-grid for his 3rd run. The RE92's still rolled over, and still understeered badly. Higher pressure only adds skittishness to the equation. So as gtguy mentions... it may be wise to get those RE92's off as soon as possible.

RE92's = cheap, black, rim-protectors...

Yeah, well... all cars crash if not driven sensibly. At this time I'd like to "defend" the Bridgerock RE92's. (I wouldn't buy another set, but...) Those "break-away" tires are what this car needs for the new, and not so accustomed to driver of a high performance car. It's my opinion that they keep one honest while learning the car's capabilities. They do suck tho'. BTW: Porsche 911's wrap around trees much better!
