I also have the 2012 impreza 4 door... I was hoping to just buy the roof kit but I spoke with the parts department manager and he pointed out that indeed you can not use the OEM roof kit for this model. Altough, the sport models or hatchbacks(not sure) have the cut outs on the actual rain gutters ready for the OEM roof kit. Sucks for us...

etrailer has some nice hitches too and platform racks.

I have a base model and I hear that trying to install the sport roof rails is pain in the ass. is there an aftermarket roof rails for our 2.0?

I'd stick with the Subaru rails, regardless of how hard they are to install. They'll fit right, and they'll be strong. If you can't do the installation yourself, find someone to do it for you. I'd probably go to an independent body shop.

I've never seen a generic rack on a car. The roofs are just too different to make anything worthwhile. If you went with something off the shelf, you'd still have to drill the roof and the extra work would probably get you to the point of installing an OEM rack and it will look goofy. Want to put stuff on the roof easily? Buy a Yakima. Want secure roof rails that look like they belong on the car? Get OEM rails.

I have Subaru aero bars on my '12 Premium and they are horrible. Super flimsy and they got crushed by my bike racks. I would enjoy some a suggestion on some Yakimas that are sturdy and possibly more square since the aero profile seems to be a problem.

Are those the aero or square bars?

The Forrester has thule square bars that we carry kayaks and bikes on without the rack/bars being crushed.

I carted two boats on the aero bars for 600 miles, 120lbs, not problem. Maybe your rack is a bit heavy or not designed for the aeros?

Exclamation Yakima rack for 2012 Premium - Their configurator is wrong

FYI - on the Yakima website the consumer fit configurator is incorrect. I have a 2012 Impreza Premium that has the integrated attachment points on the roof. I wanted to attach the t16 HDXB Whisperbars. Their configurator puts the K328 fit kit in my cart which would clamp onto the sport or limited models front to back rails. In fact after several calls to them I now believe what I actually need is the K368 fit kit. (NOT THE K533 clip system for naked roof, nor the K328 to clamp onto for sport rails.)

Be wary of their fit configurator. I've told reps about the issue and each says they are making note of it to get it corrected, but its still wrong after 4 weeks.

Hope that helps someone.

You'll be better served if you use their dealer configurator tool at http://fitlookup.yakima.com/fitlookup.aspx

I too have the rain gutter attachment points. Is it seriously $400+ for a cross bar system? Sticker shock since I just bought the OEM cross bar set for $150 (albeit it sucks).

I entered a 2012 and my 2013 5-dr on Yakima's site today, and they listed the K368. Guess they fixed it.

The dealer configurator listed the wrong stuff.

EDIT: Amazon has a deal on Yakima racks components right now. Save 12% each on Qualifying Items offered by Amazon.com when you purchase 1 or more.
I ordered the K368 mounts and the Wisperbars, and they knocked $52 off the total, which almost made the K368 kit free.
$379 shipped (I'm a Prime member, so two day shipping was free).

@Nagevmai is this interior red footwell led lighting the OEM one or is it after market? I recently had a trip to my dealership and ask for them and nobody knew about it.

PS. Car looks nice, roof rack looks neat!

New to roof racks, I have a 2013 Impreza Sport Silver. Can you keep the Whispbar S54 on in a car wash vs the OEM Aero? I'm buying a set of cross rails this week and want opinions on which ones are best.

Also has anyone done flush mounted Thule ski rack with Whispbar on this car? Is there enough height for bindings?

Why on God's green earth did you allow the tow truck driver to drag your car up by the wheel?? Especially since you had the tow hook installed!!!!

How did you manage to slide a Subie into a curb on ice?? Doing something we shouldn't have been???

I've got the whispbars on mine sport limited with Yakima forklifts attached. They really are pretty quiet and I don't think I took a major mpg hit. The car is still new so I'm only at my second full up. I saw someone post about keeping the whispbars on at the car wash. I hope so, removing the plastic cover is rough. But the thing Is on pretty tight and I used to take my touareg through the the wash with the forklifts on. If anyone knows otherwise I'm curious as well.

I'm on my second fill up as well. I was planning on leaving on the Whispbars but the directions manual specifically says DO NOT go into an automated car wash. Hope others can give us both advice.

Well, our fear was realized.... Just FYI, do not let your dealer tell you the spoiler will work with your roof rack/box/bike rack. We decided to take delivery of a car that was already coming into the local dealership in lieu of building since it everything we wanted but it had the spoiler. I asked, asked, and asked again if we would have any issues and they kept saying no. Now, here we are with a rear hatch that only opens about 3 feet. I know other ppl might not think this is a big deal, but for what we paid for a new car, we should be able to use it the way we intended. I guess I should have been more skeptical, but I made the assumption that our sales person was an expert on all things Subaru.

That being said, we are happy with the product. Currently running about 30 MPG with Thule Aero Bars and an ascent 1600 box on top with 2000 miles on the car. It performed great on a recent wknd trip through highway rain and ice to 6/8 inches on local roads.

um how is that the sales man or dealers fault. You bought the box you knew the dimensions. You could have easily used tape measure to figure out of the spoiler would hit box, bike rack etc. I have a bike rack on top and I just open it gently and my rack is relatively long compared to others I have seen. that was your oversight not theirs
