Mine goes to 1k sometimes slightly over at around 1200 at most. It is definitely reflected on during hot days only. Cold days, no worries.

bumping an old thread.

Fixes for this issue?

I have had my CC cable disconnected for some time but would like to actually fix this issue, I cut up a sheet metal heat shield for the CC unit itself as an extra shield from turbo heat but this did not resolve. Anyone have any decent fixes for this aside from pulling the cable off. In my case at least you cant loosen the cable enough to fix it on a warm day.

Only started when I went stage 2 with a tbe, its heat wrapped and I have the factory heat shield although modded to fit the larger dp.)

Alright, Iv'e totally removed my cruise control. I loosened my throttle cable. I cleaned the IACV and replaced the gasket. My car still idles at 4.5k RPM in hot weather only. Right as it cools off at night, I have no idle issues. any help?

I had the same issue today, I adjusted both cables last winter and its been fine since. Today I was idling for a long time and it started idling very high 3.5k max. I then noticed my coolant temp gauge in dash was much lower than it usually is at operating temp. Seems odd, I am going to have to assume its a coolant temp sensor issue giving false readings causing the issue..? Anyone have any experience with this?

As everyone stated the cruise cable expands from the heat and for some reason makes idle go up. Just detach the cruise cable and you will be good. Dealer clip recall didn't work for me or my friend. We both detached the cruise cable and never had this problem again.

I believe that the gauge and the computer run off of two separate sensors, and the failure of both would be highly unlikely. I would be looking into other issues like the IAC, and TPS, or any other component that could effect idle speed.

My issue was in an '05 Saabaru 9-2x. I have been experiencing the same hot weather idle climb. Eventually, I got back to my garage while it was still happening and check the CC cable; sure enough, it was tighter than it ought to be. Grabbing a 12mm wrench and loosening the cable solved it instantly.

just loosen the cruise cable(put some slack in it) ...no need to disconnect it ,mine is still working well no more high idle

Thanks for that information, I am going to just keep a wrench in my car and adjust it the next time it happens.

Just make sure you're loosening the cable, and not tightening it. Seems obvious, I know, but you want to bring both nuts closer to the front of the vehicle. Moving them toward the firewall tightens it.

Its the cruise control cable. Search. Its a known issue when the summer hits and car gets overly hot. Just loosen the nut on the cruise control cable. Simple fix.

How do you adjust the throttle and cruise control cable?

Default 2004 WRX hanging/high idle issue

You just adjust the cruise cable not throttle cable.

There is a nut where the rubber portion of the lines begin, smack dab in the middle top portion of intake manifold.

Just loosen the back nut on the cruise cable all the way so that there will be more slack on the line.

Disconnect the cruise cable completely from the throttle body, when its idling high like that especially when the turbo is hot, the cruise cable sticks and holds the throttle open, you can confirm this by duplicating the high reving, when it does push the throttle closed by hand.
