Blinking security light and car won't start
Wondering if you guys can help.
I have a 11' limited wrx. I had the air bag recall fix done a few weeks ago. My car doesn't start unless I do a jump (cables). The security light was blinking and now it doesn't and the car is dead. I had the battery checked at autozone and the battery is at 85% and said is good. My battery connectors look corroded and was wondering if that might be the connection problem. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Often, battery cables corrode internally and cause starting issues. If you can see the corrosion, then the cables are no doubt a source of your problem. Try at least cleaning the terminals and battery posts to find out if that helps.

If you dont want to clean terminals by taking off and using wire brush
Pour Coke/Pepsi on the terminals Works every time |

Saw that mythbusters episode where they used Coke to clean an engine bay. Worked pretty well...
The scary one was the penny myth - they left it in Coke for a couple days and that thing looked shiny as the day it left the mint. |

As already pointed out, that is probably it. You might consider getting the felt washers to go under the terminals, and then coat the connection with something (they sell spray on stuff - you'll find it where the felt washers are at the auto parts shop) or if you don't have that, silicone dielectric grease works just fine for that, too.

You can purchase a small tube of dielectric grease to coat the terminals, posts, and the felt-washers.
If you are at the point where you need a new battery, consider an AGM battery. |

You should still replace cables just to be safe, there's a good chance they may be corroded as well. Last edited by FKemp; 01-02-2021 at 08:11 PM. |
