Default Stock STI tire trade in at Discount tire

I need opinions:

I am buying stock STI wheels with the stock tires on them with full tread. They only have 500 miles on them.

Now, I am in Michigan so these tires will NOT keep me on the icy road. I'm going into discount tire tomorrow to show them the tires in perfect condition and attempt to trade them strait up for nice set of performance all season tires. What do you think my chances are of getting a nice set without spending a penny?

Or am I gonna have to pay a decent amount of money because these tires aren't worth what I think they are?

I'd say your chances are a big fat ZERO. I'd love to be proven wrong, but the tires are used, and they weren't purchased from them to begin with.

Drive over to my house, I'll buy you a nice set of all-seasons to exchange your RE070s.

Oh yeah, you got no chance. May likely get laughed at too.

sell your newish sti tires and buy new all seasons....

or better yet buy a set of used rs/wrx rims and tires for a set winter wheels and keep the sti setup for the summer. the stock sti tires are excellent tires.

I would definitely take them off your hands. I am going to be running them next summer on the RSX.

you asked for opinions, and as I'm sure you are seeing, the stock rims and 070's are an excelent summer set-up. Keep them and use them for what they were intended. Invest in some beater/used/whatever rims and put some reasonable snow tires on for your winter shoes. Prediction: doing this will make you fall in love with your car everytime you get to enjoy the performance advantage of driving tires matched to the weather. All-seasons are a total compromise, not as good in the summer as summer tires, not as good in the winter as winter tires. Most have sidewalls designed for comfort over responsiveness, compounds designed for wear over grip, and tread patterns designed for quiet over performance. I grew up in MI and unless things have drastically changed, gobs of salt, potholes, and frostheaves are the standard fare. Do yourself a favor, spend a bit more to get a winter setup, and enjoy better safety, control and performance.

wait wait wait....

Vehicle: o5 2.5rs w/hint of STI :-)

"I am buying stock STI wheels..."

So you don't have the STI wheels yet? Are they from an '04? (unlikely since there probably aren't too many sitting around out there with only 500 miles on them.) If they are from an 05+ they won't fit your car, unless you did a hub swap, which would imply a level of enthusiasm that would suggest that you would appreciate having a set of 070s around...
