Default Another Rumor of '06 Imprezas

Well here is another rumor that i came across this weekend. While at Subaru dealer with a buddy, who was picking up his brand new '05 Legacy GT Limited (beautiful car), i was making chit chat with 3 salesmen, one who was a manager, and i asked them if they knew any faqs on the '06s. Well they all smirked at me and told me "brand new specs of the '06s". First off, the '06 STis as they put it will have " 400 HP and 390 ft.-lbs of torque to compete with the new Evo that suppposedly has around 400hp". They also stated that the standard WRX will have 270 HP out of the 2.5 liter block to compete with the standard Evos.

Not only that, one salesman had "a VF34 with no EM and was pushing close to 300 HP, and will have 400hp once he gets a UTEC Flash, not that whole computer system..." which last time i checked isn't a product.

You gotta love dealerships... always good for a laugh.

**EDIT**... proof of increased displacement on page 6 of this thread for those who have come late. 03/13/2005

270 out of the 2.5 seems entirely possible. The 400 would require an engine we haven't seen yet, so yes, that's completely rumour.

ha ha.. wow, I thought, at first, that this thread was.. well, I thought you believed what they were saying... ha.. everyone know's that dealers don't know the difference between apples and oranges when it comes down to new, if not overall info on subies. I know the dealers where I live barely know about subies period. I once got in trouble helping some customer lady out because the idiot salesman was giving her wrong info about the car...... "Gossh....... idots"

The US spec WRX could have a 2.5 and the rest of the planet gets the 2.0 motor

The 2.5 liter standard WRX makes sense though, keep one engine block to reduce number of parts needed, won't need to keep parts for both 2.0l and 2.5l here in the States.
400 HP isn't at all feasable to me. It just sounds far to ridiculous for a production car in this niche. 330 HP - 350 hp sounds more reasonable, and if it were to raise to that the standard WRX could have 270 hp, still about 70 hp less than the STi which is the power difference now.

But i like how the guys at the dealership also mentioned the torque with the HP rating... makes you wonder.

Default 2.5L in wrx

IF they do put a 2.5L in the WRX, even making 250 hp (basically the legacy GT engine), and IF it's priced anywhere near the current 2.0L WRX, I would think thats going to make a bunch of current STi owners somewhat peeved, and perhaps take sales away from the new ('06) STi..the STi is and would remain a different car (transmission, suspension), but IMO what really sets it apart right now from the WRX (and justifies the extra $$) is the engine.

Oh well, I guess it's wait and see, like others have said.

You don't understand WRC homologation rules. They don't need a production 2.0L turbo to compete, and in japan there are the standard EJ20's that are non turbo which still fulfill the production requirement. This is how Ford, PSA (Peugeot and Citroen), Skoda, and everyone but Subaru and Mitsubishi remain in the game.

Now that i remember it, that's exactly what the guys there said, "the standard WRX will have a similar/same setup as the new Legacy GT."

2.5t in the WRX seems plausible; as it is now the Leg GT is a much better car for only few k more.

I don't think a 2.5T WRX would be distinct enough from the STi, and I don't see a power bump coming in the STi either.

50 more hp in the WRX is pretty big jump....

We'll see though.

WRX drives very different from Legacy GT, even if Subaru puts the same engine on both of them. 2006 WRX will come with 2.5L turbo for North America and it is just a matter of time. Like the base wagon, It used to be 2.0L and now it is 2.5L. North American consumer is power hungry. Subaru can keep it the same 2L engine and boost the power. But, there would be turbo lag. So, the quick fix would be by increasing the size of engine. cheers.

As we've discussed before in here, there is plenty of equipment on the usdm sti that makes it worth the higher price, other than .5 liters more of displacement compared to a usdm wrx. in other parts of the world the two have the same displacement.

For what its worth, I've heard second hand the same 2.5l wrx rumors from a local dealer. I'll wait for offical announcements from subaru before getting to excited. If its true, I say bring it on.

A tuned Legacy GT 2.5 DOHC engine I can see running at 270. If they match the 5spd Automatic/6spd STI gearbox to the WRX, that'd be nice.
