old car, newish engine, JDM EJ205 + VF48, now need a map
Hi all - old protuned TD04 on usdm ej20 decided to leak oil from every gasket including a headgasket so I figured at 300,000kms its time to let her go.
new engine V9 EJ205 9:1 compression ratio w/acvs Decapped/modded stock injectors (light blues) VF48 rest of the car is stock w/o snorkel airbox silicone one piece inlet STI Intercooler 3" TBE Really close to getting this in the car but now im pretty sure I'll need a map to drive it... anyone help? I have the JDM ECU and will try to run AVCS, I'll be running 94 octane (Canada)

Are you planning on tuning yourself? E-tune? Or pro tune? AVCS is worth it. Feels like a completely different engine.

the story was, 3 weeks ago i went to the shop for cam cover gaskets. I was just fed up with the oil burning off of the exhaust manifold and thought this was gonna nip it. NOPE - cam seals, front main, rear main were all leaking. my USDM ej20 had 300,000kms so i said screw it, and here i am with a jdm ej205 and decided i'll fill out all my supporting mods by de-capping my light blue injectors and slap in a vf48 (cuz cheap/local/made in china) i only drive 6,000 kms/year but yah... my td04 had a protune and it was great and trapped 13.6 on winters. i do want a good tune eventually, but lets just say i didn't budget this out and if i could use an etune for a bit, I'd probably just schlep around on it until i start to get bored... the problem now is: 1. vf48 + decapped injectors = tune 2. 9:1 compression ratio 3. AVCS I'll be pumping 94 octane in here to help with some of this.. hope some of u older guys in the game found this funny..... does anyone have a recommendation for the avcs wiring (diy?) or is it $150 just to get the wires? |

Search around a little. I just posted the avcs wiring diagram on another thread a couple days ago. If you're competent with reading wiring diagrams then it's pretty straight forward. If not, then do the easy thing and order a pre-made kit. I would get the IA Tuning kit personally. Also, talk to Steve at IA about tuning as well. His price for an E-tune is quite good.

Also, my engine has TGV, so I don't want to give up TGV for AVCS.. Also since you have AVCS, is the entire engine just smoother? aren't you running 9:1 compression? What gas are you running? what did you do for your timing? |

I don't tune. I had the car tuned locally on 93. I have a VF34 going in right now and will be tuned on 91 since I spend my winters in UT. It does run much smoother and builds boost much quicker then the USDM 205. I made 238whp/260wtq with the TD04 on 93. I don't know how he set up timing but it's not pulling timing and the avcs fully advances under WOT with no knock correction. All information I was able to find suggests this engine is 9.0:1 CR. To keep your TGVs you will have to add wires going through the wiring harness. 4 shielded wires to the right hand grey connect and 4 to the left hand black connector. iWire has all the ecu and engine harness pins you could ever want. I'd also recommend doing the OBD2 port as well. The wires loosen up over time and make it difficult to connect to your laptop. |

can you get the injectors flow tested? thats the most critical issue for you to get the car running. after that you could modify all of the relevant injector tables in a stock v9 map to account for the change in flow. From there the other tables are much easier to dial in. beyond that do you have a wideband to confirm the maf calibration?

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm kinda going into this really ignorant.. I took internet and nasioc findings on injector flow and used that to approximate 780cc as a flow. I know its prob within 10% of that but I was on limited time to get this buttoned up.
I invested in a plx dm6 as now the injectors and turbo are different, its prob a good idea although I was just using an egt before.... Now I gotta get a bung put in and wire this up in time to get the engine in and a local tuner is working out a map. |
