Unfortunately I'm getting my '19 w/o HK & Nav (didn't want it, really, not for $2100 more), else I'd post pics when I got to opening it up.

Its still worth posting. Some folks that don't have HK might want to upgrade for CP/AA with OEM fitment and looks... it could help them out.

I called this dealership today and they told me it's an aftermarket unit. They charge $1,995 plus tax and it takes them 1-2 days to complete. That's about the same price for the 2019 OEM HU. Besides the steep price, not knowing for sure that it's plug-and-play with the 2018 is what's stopping me from getting the 2019 OEM HU. I know there are plenty of cheaper aftermarket options out there but they look out of place in my opinion.

If only there was a brave 2019 Harman Kardon HU owner out there willing to show us detailed pictures of the back connections. It's for the greater good ;-)

Mine is a 2019 Limited WRX with the same Harman stereo. I too have issues with CarPlay where it will play for 20min or so and randomly disconnect. I run iPhone7 with iOS12 (did not work on iOS11.x either). I've tried the Apple lightening cable, Siri is on, etc.

I also own a 17 Golf-R with CarPlay and it works perfectly fine on that car so I too suspect that it is a HU firmware bug. If anyone has one working, please let us know your firmware version.

For now, I have restricted CarPlay from launching on my iPhone so that I can plug in my iPhone to charge and use it like the Harman stereo in my 16 STI. For the most part this works fine for me since I don't usually use maps (not big on Spotify either) and for text, I just use Siri anyway.. but it would be nice to have CarPlay working since the screen is so nice.

Default 2018 WRX HK Radio

Hi everyone I have a 2018 limited WRX with the HK system and was wondering if any of you have had any trouble with the sound? More specifically an annoying constant ring while using BT and USB. The ring lies within the 10khz range. I started noticing it when Iím blasting my music and the song stops to transition to the next, in between songs thereís silence and I hear that stupid 10khz ringing itís pretty noticeable. I took it to the dealership and they advised me that thereís nothing wrong with it and they could not replicate the issue. So I had to show them on a frequency analyzer program I have on my laptop ďIím an audio engineer full time Ē where sure enough the car was peaking at 10khz. The technicians were surprised they werenít able to hear it until I turned it off then and back on. Anyways, their conclusion was that all the Subaru WRXís have this issue. Iím calling bull lol. Has anyone had this problem?

Does anyone know what the model number is for the Apple CarPlay unit? Not the part number. Trying to order a harness for the alpine power pack

Unfortunately they are not going to care what you do.... LOL ..... i work with vehicle electronics and ( not being a RICHARD) but know way more about the wiring in these cars than the techs do..... and i went in for an oil change and they saw my antenna for my remote start system, and were like "you know you cant add anything or the warranty is bye bye" i laughed a little, and asked for that in writing........... adviser looked at me odd and asked if i was a lawyer............LOL nope just a vehicle tech who knows the laws about warranty and what i can and cant do. Long story short, im sure they flagged my account but funny when i go there ( ive bought 5 cars from there) they dont ever mention it now.....
And kudos from breaking out the rta...... im sure they had no idea what you were doing..... LOL

How i rectified the piss poor radio in mine?? i had it out within 24 hours of bringing the car home. LOL

My 2016 STI has the Harman stereo and so does my 2019 WRX. Neither has the ringing you mentioned and I too am an audio guy so I would hear it if it existed and would bug me too.

I too have this problem with my 18 limited and so have a few others. I turned down the treble and it helped a bit but other than that itís still there. Just learned to tune it out for the most part. Pretty pathetic for an Ďupgraded stereo.í Havenít complained to the dealer yet.

A guy on clubwrx had his head unit changed and didnít fix the issue. I might push them to change out the amp on mine see if it does anything.

As an owner of a 2018 w/ HK Iím subscribing. I had an aftermarket Pioneer w/ Apple CP in my 2015 wrx and it was awesome hands free texting and calling. Granted, Iíd also installed a bypass so passengers could watch DVDs while the car was moving, which was awesome. The only drawback was it didnít look stock at all, it was clearly an aftermarket HU.
Hopefully someone figures out a way to retrofit a 2018 to allow Apple CP. Because for $2k Iíd rather bite the bullet and go aftermarket again.
