Just got my V7 in today, I'm wondering if you guys got any suggestions for spark plugs? I wanna swap em out before the motor goes in.

pull the plugs and ID them...most likely the NKG R plugs, same ones as usdm wrx. Check the plugs and if they look ok. you can follow this guys advice on reading plugs, i personally did plugs once on my ej205 and didn't really care to inspect them at the time...probably should have.

hmm...found these, not exactly sure who manufactures these but they are expensive due to STi stamping their logo on the package

i use NGK BKR7EIX plugs, my v7 came with Denso IK22's.

Anybody go with 1 step colder than the plugs that came with the motor? Any specific ones recommended for 350whp+?

It's important to realise that the cars and ROM files Clark and I see are not necessarily the same, nor are the same results necessarily achievable.
I gave a reasonably detailed description of the problems as they apply to the majority of UK vehicles, since that was on a UK forum. This means there are a lot of MY99/00 cars (dating back to a time when the US didn't have Impreza Turbo models), a large number of EUDM MY01-05 cars both WRX and STI all non-DBW, and a few MY06-07 EUDM DBW cars. There are very few MY08-10 cars. Even when there were "direct equivalents" they weren't necessarily comparable... The types of ROM file that are common here won't be in the US, and vice versa. Take, for example, the 300g/sec limit. It's there in an EUDM MY02 file whether you're using Flash2002 or ECUFlash, that's just the way it is scaled. You can find that scaling as "Airflow(g/s)1" in 16BITBASE if you're interested. In contrast, if we take an MY06 JDM STI file, that uses "Airflow(g/s)" and it pegs at 400g/sec. Also the DBW ROMs are a lot friendlier with the MAF scaling... since the US has had those somewhat longer than the UK, it means that more of the cars just don't have the limit. Moreover I didn't say it was impossible to work round it, I actually detailed HOW you can work round WITHOUT patching the ROM. Patching the ROM may be a more elegant solution but that's not really a viable option here... I'll try not to open Pandora's Box when I say that, from a mapper's perspective, it is a choice of ECUTEK or open source but not both. Given the number of cars present here that cannot be mapped using open source, it's somewhere between a no-brainer and a "no-choice"-er for professional mappers. There MAY be solutions available via open source tools that I just can't use, but on the flip side of that, there are ECUs I can map that the open source tools can't.... in a perfect world one could pick and choose, but the world we live in is far from perfect. There are a lot of cool new things on the horizon from ECUTEK which will definitely address some of the gotchas but they're not here, not right now. Ultimately, the ECU is just a piece of hardware. It doesn't know or care what 1g/sec is, what 100 degrees C is, what 1.8 bar is. These are simply representations of real world quantities and they can be represented in many ways within the control code of the ECU. Just how the original designer of the ECU firmware chose to do it will affect how much re-calibration you can do before you not only have to change the calibration data, but also the control code. If you are prepared to re-code then limits become meaningless, as do features, protocol definitions, I/O assignments... if you went back to bare metal then you could do whatever you wanted (within the hardware capabilities). In a similar vein you could say that your Windows 7 computer IS capable of running compiz, all you have to do is reformat the hard drive and install a Linux distro. If you want to be pedantic then yes, software limits can be extended.... Hardware limits are something else. If a sensor simply cannot register more than X, even if you set the limit in the software to X+Y, you will never see more than X and by definition, you will never reach the limit, regardless of what is happening in the real world. The only solution to this type of a problem is in the real world. The sensor needs to be made capable of measuring X+Y. Just how that is achieved will be somewhat dependant on the sensor. How you go about verifying that the limit really does kick in at X+Y can be anywhere on a long scale between fun / entertaining and downright dangerous. Cheers, Pat. |

Just picked up my V7 EJ207. Got a good deal on it. The two front cylinders closest to the front bumper wouldnt hold any pressure on the leak down test. All the air is coming out the intake manifold. Im going to be rebuilding it shooting for like 350-400 on e85 with a rotated 30r. Doe anybody have reccomendations for 1 step colder plugs, fuel injectors. Does the 207 take sti coilpacks or wrx? Thanks guys

someone else can offer a more solid answer, but on my version 8, i'm running ngk wrx 1 step colder plugs, deatschworks 850 cc injectors, and i was told that both coilpacks work. this is where i'm a little fuzzy - i vaguely remember someone stating that wrx and sti coilpacks are different, but they don't perform differently. something like that. so in other words, if you're changing them, you can use either, but they should all be the same kind.

The 207 and 205 accept the same type of coilpacks... completely interchangeable. So whether there is a diffwerence or not... you can run either with plenty of spark for much higher hp goals. Sounds like you have some bent intake valves. Makes sense as they are typically abit bigger than the exhaust valves with abit more lift. Make sure the valve guides aren't torn up... their not cheap though, but don't skimp... 20 bucks a pop (and theres 16 total). def |

Can someone verify this is an actual V7 EJ207 ecu. Im kind of confused by the 6A. The numbers on the ecu read 22611AH581, 112200-5122, 12V.

I bolded the important part of the string. From memory that's actually the V8 ECU. The V7's were AH480, AH481, AH970, AH971 while the V8's started on AH580, AH581. There's a thread with decoder ring in the title floating around somewhere that actually has the ECU codes for all the different year JDM STi's.
