Default oil cooler location, too high?

i'm thinking bout mounting my cooler up by where the hood release latch is at. is that too high? or it doesn't really matter as the system is pressurized and forcing the oil to flow up to the cooler should be ok?

It's going to have to be a narrow one because the bracket for the hood latch doesn't give much room between the grill. The height won't matter like you said because of the pressure, there are optimum orientations at least that I've read for air/water intercoolers, not sure if it works exactly the same way or not.

what did ya mean when u said "optimum orientation"?

the cooler i got is actually prett thin, so it fits between the grill and radiator just fine, it's mouthing it that's giving me some problems

anyways, when everything is complete, i can do a write up of the cooler install.....it'll include all parts and cost and where to buy.

the good thing is that it'll be under 100 bux.....but won't be use for scca or other track even as they require -an fittings, hey, whatta want for under a 100 bux? hehe

I've always thought it would be neat to mount it under the hoodscoop if you had a FMIC but you want to mount it as low as possible so the oil pump doesn't have to work harder than it should.

It's also a fire hazard if you mount it where the tmic would have been, I think that was the main reason people aren't doing it.

vile- when I said optimum orientation I was talking about inlet and outlet, but I don't think it will matter. Most of the installs I've seen mount the cooler sideways but I have seen some that mount it with the fittings at the top. You'll most likely have to fab mounting brackets, it would also be a good idea to use rubber washers to dampen vibrations a bit for the core. -an fittings I would recommend even if you're not racing for more protection for the lines and higher pressure threshold, but your mounting location your lines shouldn't be too close to the ground but personally I would still get the ss lines.

What did you do with the stock oil/coolant oil cooler?

luckily for me, the mounting brackets i need to make is not going to be tuff, so it's pretty ugly, but will work

as for removing the factory cooler, no, i don't think i will, it can be easily bypass if i wanted too, but there'd be no point in that
