Default 2003 Forester's roof cross bars

Hello everyone:
I am looking for the 2003 Forester roof cross bars that come with the 2.5XS. You see here in PR the local dealers did not bring offer them as factory item. They only offer the 150Lbs ugly ones.
I know some people don't like them because they are noisy (agaist the wind) and perhaps would like to sell them. Mine (my wife's) is a 2003 2.5XS PP white.
Thanks,

Efrain

Sorry, no roof rack to sell, but I was wondering if you considered getting an aftermarket system like Yakima or Thule.

Both companies will (or will soon have) units that would work with the Forester. I believe Yakima now makes racks that are aerodynamic as well.

Thanks but, I am looking for the OEM look. I do have three set of Thule racks and will be getting the attachments for that heavy load. But for the everyday use and lighter stuff I'll preffer the original ones...

Thanks,

Efrain

Default Roof Racks

Hello Everyone:
By now more 2003 Foresters have been sold and perhaps someone bought the additional Thule square roof racks and will not mind parting with the OEM one.
The 2003 are completely different from previous years so that won't work. Let me know if you know of anyone who might be interested as I will care and love them as if they were yours .

The roof rails look different, they're now aluminum, too. So check before you get one from a 2002 or earlier, my guess is they will not fit.

I think you're in the right place. Several pre-2003 Forester have been de-crossbarred (is that a word?).

Default roof crossbars

While we're on this subject... does anyone know what purpose the rubber strip on the top of the bar is for. It looks like if you peel the strip away there will be a groove or slot in the top of the bar. Is the slot for mounting accessories? I cant find any info in the owners manual. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Default try to remove the rubber strip....(more)

then drive at a speed of 60kmh or more and you'll find out why they are there!
the grooves are for mounting accessories like bike racks or ski rack.

Well, a year later and I am still looking for some '03-'04 Forester crossbars. I suposed that now there might be better chances of getting them from someone that could have bought the optional ones from the dealership.

Anyone?

Sorry to hear that. I'm assuming that it doesn't matter where the seller is from, be it in PR or outside. I ran across several bars for the my2003-2004 sold off eBay at least twice about 2 months ago. I haven't seen one since, but you might get lucky and find one in eBay.

You just want the OEM black crossbars that mount to the roof rails?

I assume the ones on my '04 XT would be the same?

They're sitting in a closet in my living room, I never had them installed as I'd never use them and didin't want them cluttering up the look of the car. I'm not sure how shipping would work to PR, but drop me a PM with an offer and maybe we can work something out.

Ghostrider-

USPS ships to PR, since it is part of the USA (sort of, no offense).

UPS also and probably many others. UPS 2nd day air would be $45 for 10 lbs, 44 inches long x 8" wide from California to PR. No slower/cheaper option though.

USPS is probably cheapest if you send it slow.

I got $58 from UPS (extra charge for being over 36") and roughly $39 from the USPS-but they said they'd have to see the final package to assess whether it would get an extra-length charge as well, and those are both without insurance, and both quotes are for shipping to San Juan (had to guess a city in PR).

Plus I'd have to get a box that passes USPS regs

I've been looking at crossbars for my subaru and wondering how these, https://vaultcargo.com/subaru-forest...ck-cross-bars/ ones compare to thule or yamika. Or if anyone has suggestions on other brands besides yakima or thule. I just would prefer to keep the price down a little. thanks.
