Default Issues: 2004 ECU swap in a 2005 ...STi

Thanks to an unstable laptop I bricked my ECU in my 05 STi flashing a map via Ecuflash. Turned out there was a burnt component on the circuit board anyways that was causing me fueling issues. I was able to obtain a 2004 STi ecu. Comparing notes on the pinout diagrams I rewired the harness to match the 5 different wires to feed the 04. I've went over the wiring a few times, it appears to be correct.
I'm still not getting any feedback from the ecu. I connect the flash mode connectors and it doesn't go into test mode. I'm wondering if there is some step I am missing? Seemed pretty straightforward but it's a no go as it sits now.

Looks like I had a bad connection on one of my splices. Car goes into test mode now. Just can't get ecuflash to connect to any way, let alone this one.

Looking for advice from anyone who's done this. I'm wondering if there is something I overlooked.....

This is what I have gathered so far between the ECU differences that need to be put togther:

2004 ECU ======================2005 ECU (harness side)

B135-27 =====VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR===== B135-26
B137-16 =========AC SWITCH========== B137-17
B137-15 =======IGNITION SWITCH======== B137-14
B137-14 ======TEST MODE CONNECTOR==== B137-15
B135-26 ==== FUEL PUMP CNTRL UNIT SIGNAL 1 === B135-27

Pinout downloads http://www.northursalia.com/modifica...ng/wiring.html

This leaves B137-17 unassigned on the 2004 , and B137-16 on the 2005 side unassigned. Oddly I do not get flash mode without connecting these two together, which according to the above shoudn't even matter.

If anyone needs this for future reference, the ecu was locked. The above pinouts (all of them) are correct and the car now runs. Much thanks to the "How to Unbrick an ECU. Like A Boss!" thread.

So by using a 2004 STI ECU on a 2005 STI, do you bypass the immobilizer stuff? So I could use a regular (non immobilizer) key on a 2005 STI?

Yep, I used a 2004 ecu because my 2005 had a burnt spot where something shorted. Swapped in the 2004, changed the necessary wires around, and now I can use the keys that came with the 2005 without worrying about the immobilizer.

I did however lose my cruise control. The cruise light will come on but it will not set.

Yeah that sucks. I don't drive the STi long distance very often so I haven't done much troubleshooting, I've had a lot of other unrelated issues to work out. I've seen others say the same thing though. I'm hoping it's a wiring issue and not just some incompatibility thing

Hey, I am trying the same swap but a 04 sti ecu into my 05 forester.

I did notice that according to my pinout diagrams the 05 FXT test mode connector is 12v when the sti one is 5v, unfortunately that was after I hooked it up. Also, my FXT ignition switch is documented to be in B137 - 16 instead of your 14.

Also, I am having major issues with no response from the new ecu, and after testing pins out of the wiring harness I think that I am not getting the correct IGN, test mode connector, and A/C voltage redouts. one stars at 12v constant in any key position and the others do not get any voltage.

My question for you is if you tested the pins did they match the documentation, and how did you know your ecu was locked? Did you leave your immobilizer box plugged in? Any suggestions on what I can check? My fuses seem fine.

Question Doing same thing

I'm looking to do the same thing on my 05 Sti rally car. Since the 04 doesn't have an immobilizer. Were you able to remove the immobilizer, body integrated unit, keyless entry module and cruise control box?

Also, I don't start the car with a turn of the key since I have a switch panel, but since it has the immobilizer and security system I still have to have the key in the disconnected ignition because the security system. Mostly I wanted to know what of those components you didn't need anymore. I have a gutted harness already but I really want to cut the rest out.

I know the 05 Sti requires the ECU, body integrated unit, cluster and immobilizer all have to be together for the car to work. Does your cluster and odometer still work?

Thanks in advance!

I got mine to work after wiring it wrong first, but I must have fried something because I have to jump a wire with an extra relay to get it to boot up. This works but it completely wipes the ecu on startup. I would assume it would be fine to cut out all the other parts of the ignition system if the immobilizer isn't even plugged into the ecu anymore. My guages and everything work correctly also. My issue was that the pinout I had for my fxt was not correct.

Hey I'm trying to do a swap of an 04 FXT ecu into an 05 FXT. I'm curious if you documented the wires needed to change over or if you can provide some insight for my project. Thanks!
