Absolute newb. Just joined NASIOC. Where do I start?...
Most excellent thread bro. To the tuner who gave you grief for having this ongoing thread, I say "F" him. I think I speak for everyone here when I say that we respect you, your car(build) and especially your willingness to share it with us.
My '12 SWP WRX LTD Hatch arrives in May and I can't wait. The list of potential mods is as follows:
Tanabe springs
Eibach sways
KartBoy end links
Whiteline camber bushings
Cusco front strut tower bar
KartBoy Short shifter
Invidia Q300 TBE
18x9.5 Rota Grids - Hyper Black
and, of course, the COBB AP.
As a fellow New Englander (I grew up in NH) I'd love to learn from your mistakes (although I can't see many!). What do think of the list? Overkill? Just right? Dumb?
Thanks, in advance, and keep up the killer thread.

Hey Gilby,

Thank you so much for reading through pages of my shenanigans! It's been a lot of fun having so much interaction with people from around the world.

So is that how long the wait is these days?!? Damn!

I'd first look at your list and wonder what direction that you want to go with the car. Daily Driver, weekend racer, auto X, full race car, show car etc..
If it's a Daily Driver:

The suspension is definitely the first thing I would change but since the car comes with sways already I would opt for a spring and strut combo instead of putting the money towards the sways. Once you have the lowered ride with nice dampening then I would make the decision to do sways and end links.

The exhaust is awesome, I love mine. It drones like hell but it sounds sweet!
The AP is a must.
An intake would be a good choice if you want the hear a loud BOV without disconnecting or buying an aftermarket BPV
Short throw is a nice addition too. I was just used to a shorted throw so it was my first mechanical mod.
Wheels are a nice choice, but it comes with more mods needed to support the wide wheel without going to a stretched tire like a 235 on a 9.5" rim.

Always more to do, more to buy....

Hmmmmm, I'll harass Stance for the new bottom bracket. Their customer service is actually incredible. Then if I have more problems I might jump ship to the yellow side!

We'll see, I'm still driving on it for the time being.

Interesting...If it is a daily driver I would do sways first for sure. They made the biggest handling change on my car without sacrificing daily drivability. Coils or any other suspension mod will stiffen up the car making it worse for daily driving...

Also...no intake without a tune or AP to handle the changes the MAF will see.

Just my .02.

love jasons build but i agree with this 100%. not to mention the ride on coils is soo subjective, some might say its fine, others may lose a kidney! i plan on putting my sways on this weekend..

Your right, it's totally subjective... Also depends on what type of daily driver we're talking about too. Daily Commute or Daily Racer.

I'm talking about pure looks here. I still have no reason to change my sways or do any sort of motor mods. I drive 30 mph for 7 miles twice a day. I lowered it and added wheels to look better. I did the motor stuff just because it sounds cool.

I'm probably not the best at all for advise on practice mods, I do whatever comes to mind to make me happy that particular week. I've lucked out so far but I'm sure if I drove it hard or took it to a track, I'd be into the wall in no time. lol

My ride quality is not so great but it sits low enough for my liking. That's why I recommend a spring/strut NOT a Coilover, I'm considering switching myself.
Also he mentioned an AP, I wouldn't have recommend a intake without the AP.

Haha, yeah...

The RCE/Bilstein combo is nice because it bolts in but its expensive and non adjustable.
I might just do Eibach Pro Kit and Koni inserts. It's low(ish) and adjustable.

Still, I'm so used to the coilovers by now. All I wish is that they stop breaking on me!!

Depends on where you get the Koni's from but I think they are on sale for $650 and the springs are around $230.
The bad part is that you have to cut your front struts in half

Thanks Jason, BigRob and Rsutton. Just a quick follow up (not looking to highjack this awesome thread with my issues). It will be purely a daily driver - I'll never see the track. I want a subtle drop for looks; suspension upgrade to reduce/eliminate body roll and improve handling; Exhaust, DP & AP for a small performance upgrade and that killer exhaust note; and the wheels - again, for looks. I realize I'll probably have to roll the fenders and maybe a camber adjustment to allow for the wheels. (Semi-killer DD!!)
Thanks again. I really appreciate your thoughtful comments.

wow that looks amazing! What color is the alacantara again? steel grey?

Any tips on how to do the center console (shifter part)? I read you had to strip the paint to make it stick better?

Yupp, steel grey and black. The pieces I did today are steel grey and the cluster cover was black. Next is the A-Pillars

The tough part of the shifter section was the removal of the paint and a couple strange curves near the pocket. I got the paint off while removing all the glue that I sprayed the first time. The glue ate most of the paint off so just removing the glue with mineral spirits took most of the glue and paint off and prepped it for the respray. Once I had a good surface to glue on it was just a matter of spraying both the console and fabric and letting it get tacky. Once it's tacky it sticks incredibly well. You need to do the flat surfaces first and then pull and stretch around the hard corners.

It's a fun project and if you mess up a new one is only $45

Looks great Jason!
Back to suspension, as of lately I've really been planning my options. Like what was mention I'm really liking the bilsteins options but with black springs and possible re-valve, for dd intentions, just desire a bit more drop. Other combos could be, koni's w/ eibach's, h&r's, epics or even agency's. Progressive spring rates I'm not too fond of. Decisions, decisions. Entry coils are definitely not for me, however my buddy w/ a gt35r bugeye works for KW of America which is based 30min from where I live, and V1's are looking like the route I may go.

I'm wondering when it comes I coilovers if the price point really makes a difference in the ride quality.
My first pair of coilovers were Apex N1 dampeners and they were $2800. Yeah they had external reservoirs and rebound / dampening but the ride was still exactly like my stances. I'm not sure if there is ever going to be a great combination for the looks I want and the ride I want... I like the feel of the full size spring on a Koni, but it's just not low enough for me. I wish they made some kind of drop spindles like they did in my Honda days...

I see. Well the Eibachs do offer the lowest drop, and referencing rsutton's bilstein set-up w/ 265's, personally seems plenty low, and with eibachs you're getting another 20mm. If I could just get my hand on a pair of donor struts, for the koni's.

I just took another look at Robb's RCE/Bilstein setup, I really do like it and it's so tempting to go back to springs since his height is close to where I want to be. The Eibach's seem to have a different drop for the 2011-2012's so I think it's only .8" but I'm not 100% sure though. It's funny how I never though that I would be a person who would be so obsessed about how low my car is but here I am fighting for every mm of drop. I live in Maine, I shouldn't be as low as I am anyway, lol. I have also never adjusted my coils anyway, at least Ben raises his up during the winter.

Stance came through with a new bottom bracket and newly designed bearings for the front pillowballs. It won't change the ride at all but at least they'll be quiet and safer...

I'm saving up for Brembo's now so I'll stick with what I have until it either really bothers me or they explode!

Thumbs up x1000!!!! That alcantara looks AWESOME. I don't know if I would have the patience or attention to detail to pull of the install, but it's soooo tempting after seeing your pics.

Nicely done!
