Default 2.5i Impreza Tire Size Selection

Hey everyone,

I decided to post because most of the search results I get are for the WRX or STIs.

I have a 08 2.5i Impreza. I have the alloy rims, and I believe the size is 205/55/16 or 205/60/16.

I want to get a set of Continental DSWs for the car. I was wondering if I should go with the 225/50/16 or 215/55/16. Will those even fit?

Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Id get the 215's because 225's might have too much bulge on the sidewall for the stock wheel. Some people have done it but personally I wouldn't. And yes they will both fit.

The stockers on my 08 2.5i are 205/55-16. According to the tire specs I have found the 205/50-16 has an almost identical sidewall height so it will keep your speedo and ODD more accurate. If you go to 215/55/-16 your speedo will read lower than your actual speed due to the overall tire diameter being larger than the stockers. If you go with a 215/50-16 your speedo will read higher than your actual speed due to the tire having a smaller diameter than your stock tires. This also has the disadvantage of adding extra miles on your vehicle's ODO, which lowers the resale value when you decide to sell it or trade it in.

The stock rims were within the recommended rim widths of the 225/50-16 tires that I looked at. According to the owners manual the stock rims on my 08 are 6.5" wide. They are on the narrow side of the recomended specs for the 225/50-16 tires, and obviously narrower than what the manufacturers listed as the ideal rim width, but according to the spec sheets on Tirerack you should be fine running a 225/50-16 on your stock rims.

The only thing causing me to hesitate in throwing a set of 225/50-16 tires on my car is the fact that, at times, we get a bit of snow here in Utah, and the wider tires can make it more difficult to get your car to hook up in the snow.

Stick to OEM sizing. You're not going to benefit from having more tire.

I have a 2007 2.0R version, 170hp. uses same tire.
The last owner used 205/50/16 and the car is very very low for my country.

Im thinking of using a 205/60/16 or a 215/60/16.... the 215/55/16 could be an option....

being accurate on the speedo is not my worries, I use a GPS.
