05+ Sti front struts onto Wrx....yea yea
I know they don't bolt on. My question is for the people who have modded them to fit. I know it needs roughly an 1/8" spacer. I did some quick comparing and it looks like the bottom hole needs to be slotted upwards maybe 3/8" or so. Does it need to go back at all?
Can the people that have done this please give some insight? Thanks!

most dont consider it a worthwile endeavour as it is one fraught with possible failure
and dspec struts can be had for ~$600 which are as good or better and FIT |

i understand this. after searching and searching it seems a few have done so successfully though. i currently have a set of near new struts that cost me next to nothing otherwise i would consider other options.

You have to move the hole quite a lot more than 3/8". To me it's a safety issue and I would never do it without proper machining. Even then, it wouldn't be worth it as Dspecs work better and fit well.

I ran into a situation where i had to (and i had a full new set off a 07 laying around) I machined the camber bolt hole perfectly and it mounted up nice and then had it aligned.
purchasing d-specs now tho. I would only recommend this as a temporary if you HAVE to. |

Did you weld the old hole up first? Did they old hole and new hole overlap at all?

LOL well since everyone is bashing doing this I will tell what my experience has been.....I bought some 05 STI struts for next to nothing that had the bottom hole slotted....I installed them on a 99 Legacy and have ran them for over 3 years with no camber issues at all.....Everyone for there own opinion but I have been in school and can't afford better struts so until I start working again this setup works more than good for me consider my slow ass NA legacy can keep up with all the WRX and STI guys on our windy roads......

alternatively look out for a pair of cheap (old) 04 (or V7) STI fronts and swap the newer inserts into them

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.80 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/4.2.14320/812; U; en) Presto/2.2.0)
if you're willing to go through this much trouble to get something that doesn't fit your car to work, why not koni inserts up front? you're gonna say got these cheap blah blah blah, konis cost more blah blah blah...if cheap is a factor, why not 06-07 wrx wagon takeoffs? instead of making something fit, you'd be better off with your wagon housings with koni inserts up front and sti struts in the rear. |

Because I have the Sti struts already. Money is a huge factor...$600 might not seem like alot to some but that's 2 weeks work. I also don't have to hack up my stockers. This way I can go back to stock no problem.

Also this thread is about what it takes to make them work, I'm aware of the alternative struts out there.

I
have been here a LONG time. This is NOT a common mod and has been VERY RARELY done by anyone. To do it right costs more than buying new struts which is why it isn't often done. THAT is your answer. |

Wow don't have to be a douche.
There are people that have done it obviously but the information is vague and scattered between many threads. Sorry you have to keep coming in and reading this thread. |

If you already have the front 05 STi struts, find a set of used(blown) 04 that someone is throwing out. Hell even a dealer might have some. Re grease with Mobil 1 grease, swap the inserts and all will fit perfectly. |

I don't care how long you've been on here why act like a douche?
I have yet to come across a thread asking this exact question. I've searched, found what the figment issues are and then asked who specifically has done the work to fit them. I didn't just come in asking if they fit. How about pull that stick out of your ass? If you haven't modded 05 struts to fit then please just stay out. Simple as that. |

So let me get this straight. You want to use the 05 struts because they're practically brand new?? Why not just sell them and get Tokicos, inserts, or something else.

Because I doubt they will net anywhere close to the $$ I would need.

Do you need new struts right now? If not, just sell them, get some cash, save up for a bit and wait to get the option that will be so much better in the long run.

I'd feel more comfortable with lowering springs on sti struts than my stockers.

Once again.... I have the tools and skills to slot a hole and weld up the difference. I was just asking for what others have done so I don't have so much Down time with the car.
For someone who has been around for so long it seems you've forgotten the rules. Thanks for all of your "help". |
