Default Exhaust weights: 2011 STi

So, I hate the idea of paying a chunk of change for a new exhaust system that does not also cut weight in the process and I hate buying things just b/c someone said it is good. I am in the process of shopping for a cat-back system and very few manufactures post their weights. If this thread exists, then mods will ax it. Otherwise, if you want, add as you find out information and post where you sourced the info from. I am still looking at a couple other systems so will add those weights when I get them.

-------------------
From what I can gauge, the OEM cat-back system is 43lbs.
-----------------------------------------------
Ultimate Racing: Duel muffler system = 29lbs (UR web-sight)
Ultimate Racing: Single "quite" = 35lbs (UR web-sight)
---------
Magnaflow = 51lbs (phone call to company)
---------
Megan Racing = 45lbs (phone call to company)
-----------
Invidia Q300 Sedan Exhaust = 57 lbs
Broken down as follows:

Midpipe: 12.2 lbs
Y-pipe: 7.1 lbs
LH can: 19.0 lbs
RH can: 18.7 lbs
--------------
Hatchback Invidia N1 "Race" Catback - 35.20lbs
------------
COBB = 37.4lbs (COBB Tuning Surgeline).

i could see the invidia at less than 70lbs. I was able to lift mine into place no problem by myself on my back in the street.

You're going to need to differentiate between hatch and sedan.

for sure. there are some nice differences, and I can imagine some of the sedan versions weighing less.

I have a Magnaflow that fits the '11 STI...they list both the sedan and 5-door systems as being 51lbs (my shipping carton said 51lbs pre-printed on it). Having unpacked the box and pulled the 5-door system out, there is no way that it is 51lbs...maybe the sedan version with two mufflers?

More weight info for a 2011 STi Sedan:

Stock:
Header & Up-pipe = 26.5 lbs
Header Heatshields = 4.5 lbs

Downpipe (2 sections) = 18.0 lbs

Cat-back = 41.8 lbs (Mid/Y-pipe = 14.8 lbs, LH Can = 13.5 lbs, RH Can =13.5 lbs)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Aftermarket:
Tomei Equal Length Header and Up-pipe (with Jet-Hot 2000 coating and 130 ft. DEI Titanium 1" wrap) = 23.8 lbs

Invidia downpipe with cat = 13.5 lbs

Invidia Q300 Cat-back = 57.0 lbs (Mid-pipe = 12.2 lbs, Y-pipe = 7.1 lbs, LH Can = 19.0 lbs, RH Can = 18.7 lbs)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Basically the Invidia exhaust is a tank. Not sure I would have bought it if these weights had been publicized before. +15lbs for a catback is pretty hard to swallow. At least the weight increase is low and in the back. Even with the weight I took off with the headers and downpipe its still +3.5lbs overall, but the weight distribution is better.

cool beans. I just like the fact that some people don't care.

BTW, I love the way my set-up sounds and I am not really into the whole sound thing.

Thanks for bumping this up. My guess is most people don't really care about weight unless they are into motor sports. But my logic is that if you are going to pay $$ for an after-market system, at least it could be lighter than OEM.

Also, long term testing with my Ultimate Racing CB mated to a COBB DP running stock exhaust manifold and EWG re-routed into the DP =

Cobb Turbo back 2011 WRX/ sti Hatchback shipping weight is listed as 70lbs. Does anyone know the stock downpipe weight? I'm curious to know total weight difference.
