Default Airbox for Cobb intake

I’ve got a Cobb big sf intake that I came across randomly but it doesn’t have the airbox. I am absolutely not putting an intake on without a box so I was wondering if anyone had ideas. I would not be too happy making my own. Will the ETS airbox fit? I am hoping/assuming yes, but I want to make sure before I buy.

Why are you putting on an intake which will net you 0HP and 0TQ? Why aren't you calling Cobb to see if they will sell you the box?

Well for 1, I already said I got it free and I have no chance of selling it, I do enjoy fun turbo sounds, and saying 0 power gains from an intake is inaccurate. Simply very minimal/a slightly smoother power band. Also cobb is overpriced junk for the most part. I posted this hoping I could work around buying from cobb. Thanks for the super helpful reply

So if Cobb is "overpriced junk", why even try to install it on your car? Or is your car also overpriced junk?

Again, a not very helpful comment. The intake isn’t bad but everything they sell is so expensive, I was being dramatic. The other reason is that Cobb will not sell me the box by itself.

If it is inaccurate, then I'd like to cite your source and be careful....you are speaking about bolting up an intake without engine management. I've studied Subaru intakes since 2003 and know quite a bit.

What do you mean cite my source? Obviously I will be getting a tune with the intake. I have a garage full of parts ready to install with this intake. And like I said, I want to know about an air box for this intake. Cobb said no, just for your information. If you’ve “studied” Subaru intakes since 2003 what would you suggest in terms of air boxes? I don’t need these unhelpful comments so please stop replying unless you’re going to help me.

My tuner (Phatron formerlyof Phatbotti) pleaded with me to ditch my short ram/hot air intake because my IATs were super high as a result of the hot engine bay air being sucked in. It made it horrible to tune and was actually causing knock at WOT and reducing the amount of power we could get out of the build.

So in my case it was decreasing performance gains. I went back to the stock airbox which is superior until you get into really high power levels well beyond the 360 whp my build was putting down.

I'll admit, the intake did sound cool and didn't hurt much at stock power levels. I also had a box around the intake and I doubt it does much of anything in the first place.

I’m not too worried about it. Every tuner is different. My tuner prefers tuning for the Cobb intake, and I trust him very much. I got the intake from a guy who made ***8776;365whp on that intake from the same tuner with no issues. Everything depends on the intake and the position of the intake.

Well, I guess just buy the ETS box and see if it fits. If not return it.

I would suggest you talk to your tuner and take their advice which will likely be to take that intake and throw it in the woods unless you are planning on making north of stage 2 power. Subarus are not like other cars where an intake generates 30HP for $200 and a 10 minute install. There is some actual benefit later on in the power progression, but if you are at the "Stage 2" level, there's no need. Now if you like more noise....like the looks....know that it needs tuned....great, those are reasons. But it is not a power adder at lower power levels. Sell it and get a lightweight pulley which is a 1 bolt install, frees up ~8WHP, requires no tuning and is ~$100, that is the biggest bang for buck mod.

I actually have a Grimmspeed pulley on, I got it months ago. Do you actually talk about modified cars in stages? Does TBE, TMIC, BCS, Fuel pump+flex fuel count as “stage 2”?

Yes, that's a stage 2 or 2ish depending on who you talk to. Once you go turbo/injectors is where that term goes out the window.

Yeah I’m not doing either of those. I’m not building this car to blow up and I’m not gonna be one of those kids, “I want 400whp”.

Are you saying Ron isn't working at phatbotti anymore?
