So you want to run an EJ22 with EJ257 heads....well B and W 25 castings are going to be terrible for combustion. D25 (EJ255) will be the best set up given the compromises you want. If you're not running AVCS or even if you are, EJ205 or EJ207 would be better.

If you're not running big power, EJ257 block would be better with the EJ255/7 heads and then you can pick up about some displacement and have all the same perks.

Default 2.3l ej25 destroker help

I know im a little (a lot) late on this thread but im new to the subie family and id like to start off with this. I recently bought a jdm 2002' impreza 2.5rs (ej25) and i managed to get my hands on another jdm ej25. I was reading up on the 2.3l destroker topic and had some questions on how i should go about the build. I already have a spare ej so im not worried about money or down time but how should i go about the parts ? Im a little worried I'll buy the wrong parts and i was hoping someone with experience or the know how could chime in and point me in the right direction. Anything helps weather it be a parts list or just a general tips and stuff, thanks in advance! ~kyle.
P.s sorry for reviving a dead thread just need some help

Please make a build thread if you get this started. Ive been very interested in it myself.

All Ive found on the topic so far was that you would need +4mm rods and that they are extremely hard to come by.

Good luck and keep posting!

"4mm longer conecting rods" is where i got confused at myself being the previous comments were pretty vague on that subject, 4mm longer than the ej257 rods (75mm) would be 79mm (oem) , 4mm longer than the (oem) 79mm rods would be 83mm, also heard some people have had some luck with having custom pistons made with a 2mm lower wrist pin location to make up for some of the space with the shorter rods but i haven't heard much about that either. I ordered a ej205 crank and will use the oem 79mm rods to see just how short they fall because im not 100% on which rods were shorter, i actually have some 79mm rods laying around as spares so rather than going out and buying the 75mm rods i might not need im going to test the clearance with the 79mm rods first. I'll probably post more about the build updates on facebook so feel free to add me on there @kyle klingler but i will also start up a build thread to keep others informed on what i learn while doing this build - kyle

Sinister, you should go do some basic engine component research. You're mixing up stroke of the crankshaft and connecting rod length.

Also, +4mm rods aren't hard to come by.

Is there such a thing as buying all off the shelf crank, rods, pistions, bearings for a 2.31 stroker phase 2 block cr9.1 ? Like getting a specific ej22 na phase 2 block and dropping all the parts with no hassle

Or can anyone just send a link to a good reliable ej20 stroker build thread for 500awhp ....
Been reading this thread for 2 weeks and still confused as hell with all the different combos you could do but not really knowing what power it will handle ?

Just for clarification, by phase 1 ej25 do you all mean an ej25D up to 98?

1999 Outback/Legacy GT is listed as EJ25D, but it does run a phase2 block, crank/rods, but phase 1 pistons/heads. odd ball......

Default Is there a best/better EJ25 case for a built engine?

I haven't seen where specific EJ25 cases have been identified as stronger, beefier, better alloy aluminum or less likely to warp.
Can anyone shed light on this? Inversely, are there specific years/casting numbers that you want to avoid? Any cases with better, improved cooling passages or larger oil journals? WRX case or only "STi" case? Is there any distinction at all?
Have they improved over the years? Should I be buying a new case with a specific part number or year designation (year range) to work with for 500+ hp builds?

Do a username search for MrSaturn, he has covered this topic. The alloys don't change, AFAIK, but the castings have evolved over the years.

Wiseco's 2.2 stroker piston is meant to be used with the phase 1 crank and rods, which I would try to avoid. They have those 48mm rod journals.

If you stick that piston in with a phase 2 crank and 130.5mm rods about the best you can do is 8.5:1 using a thin headgasket and ej25d heads. wrx heads drop it to about 8.1:1.

For the 2.0 -> 2.1 stroker JE does make a 9.5:1 piston. Depending on the heads and headgaskets used this can come down to about 9.0:1.

I think between the two I would take a 2.3 and slightly lower CR than the 2.1.

That's a B25 head on an EJ22T block.

I think there are still people who refer back to them but some of them have images that are gone, links that don't work etc.
I think this is a great reference you made though. Seems like in general the forums are less used now. For whatever reason people seem to have migrated to social media. It's a shame because nothing is organized on social media like it is on the forums. The search ability is trash etc.

I do occasionally, though not like the old days. There is still a wealth of information here. Some of it is out of date or broken links make it hard to use. Others are still perfect.

It is a shame social media has largely replaced forums.
