Exclamation Commute Question... Bergen Co. to Woodbridge, NJ

Does anyone do this commute or something similar to it? I would only consider taking the NJ Turnpike (obviously a better choice). I have to see how bad the commute would be as I have a huge job opportunity down there but I don't want a killer commute. Any insight would be great guys, thanks so much. Hopefully this new job will make me enough to get my damn car back ont he road!
-Mike

EDIT: I'm only worried about the AM commute. I'll be waiting out the PM commute at whatever gym I can find down there!

That commute is actually very pleasant on weekdays. I used to help out at a restaurant in Edison, so I would venture out there on Weds and Thurs from Little Ferry. There are some hiccups around the 16-15 area, but 15 onwards is smooth and fast. Weekends, during beach season, is a different story.

Also, I believe the GSP is the best way to go since there's no tolls between 139 and 130 and only costs $.70 in the Union plaza.

Interesting... and really... GSP might be better? I figured there's always random traffic around Newark (145 and down) but if that's not the case (I haven't commuted in about 3 years) it may be worth a try one day.

I work in Woodbridge and sometimes in Linden but I come from the West. I don't really get on the turnpike however I can tell you that Rt. 9 and Rt. 1 are usually horrible around commute time because of all the construction/lights/commuters. This probably isn't that much of help to you but I would suggest giving yourself some extra time in the morning because you never know what's going to happen during commuter traffic.

GSP lanes are narrow as hell, but tolls are cheaper and no trucks are allowed.

i would think most of the traffic is going northbound on the gsp during the day. so you should be fine. and hit up rj for your gunshow needs if he's still over in clark.

^yep morning pway is free southbound..same w. turnpike..as for pway being faster..mmm i guess that depends if your closer to the pway entering and exiting...but in turnpike(car lane) you get the wider lanes, can go a bit faster, and also days that there arent cops at all

I live in Ft Lee, and commute down to Newark daily (doing IT stuff for the TSA at the airport). Usually take NJTP, eastern spur, down to Exit 14 & then the GSP back home.

Hmm... seems like I shouldn't be too bad with either the GSP or NJTP. That's good since I'm close to both (closer to gsp though). I'll have to give each one a try. If all goes well, I should be starting this commute mid August...

Used to do BC to GSP exit 136. PM is horrendous. But AM is not too bad. 25-40MPG through the concrete jungle (MP 150->140) starting at the Bloomfield bottleneck. If it rains it gets much worse. Also, maybe some slow downs at the Route 1 interchange (depending which way you're going). Wish they had continued building the TPKE into Bergen County but I guess it's still useful if you live in Richfield Park or Fort Lee..

I commuted from Bergen Co. to Piscataway for a while. It wasn't that bad of a commute in the morning, I used the Parkway because it was closer to my destination.

I'm in New Milford... so 15-20 minutes from NJTP which kinda sucks... but 10 minutes from GSP. I shall try both. Officially gave notice at my job today.. only needed to give 1 week. Woohooo!

Thanks for the help guys.

yo Mike, take GSP. I used to drive that every morning for work to exit 135. Took me only 30 minutes. Make sure you leave a little earlier than the morning crowd. You should be fine. Just a little traffic by bloomfield/belleville area, but it opens up by orange.
