Default BC tint laws

Hi, I'm new to BC and have noticed very few cars with front side windows tinted. I'm wondering if any Subaru owners have any front side tint and whether that has gotten you harassed at all. I know the law, but I've driven my beater around for a few years here and ONT with same laws and front side windows tinted (didn't know the law when I purchased lol) with no problem so far. I don't like the 2 tone look so it's either tint or no tint for me, not sure if I'd be so lucky with a new WRX if I tinted the front driver and passenger sides

If you get pulled over for any reason and the officer notices your fronts are tinted he will pull them off on the spot. Take your chances as many people tint their front side windows. You may lessen the chance if the tint % is lighter, less noticeable.

That sounds pretty extreme but it would explain all the 2 tone tints around here. I've seen a few front side tints and it's all like Mercs and Land Rovers and such, I wonder why. Guess I'll roll tintless, for the first time in a very long time

Thanks ricewagon! (fantastic username lol).

BTW, are there any recommended shops to get new wheels/tires, coilovers and things like this installed at? Possibly get fenders rolled too?.. I'm still figuring the lower mainland out since I work on the road so much. So far I've googled a place called Garage Five but I don't know anything about them really

I've always had good experiences with Garage 5 over the years for parts and work.

HBL Autosports in Richmond will be recommended by lots on this board for work.

Dale's Motorsports in Langley is always recommended for anything suspension/parts/wheels and they do all mechanical servicing too.

And don't tint the fronts unless you like attention.....plus it's safer

Welcome to BC!

I would recommend Garage Five, they are one of the original tuning shops in the lower mainland. I've been dealing with them for years. They are also well connected in the industry and can probably find you anything you could possibly want for your car.

As for tint, I'd be careful about tinting the front windows, particularly on a modified car, especially these days. The cops are out in full force handing out VI's (vehicle inspections) right now. I'm sure they have those in Ontario as well. Anyway, there's no need to give them an excuse to pull you over by having tinted front windows or a crazy loud exhaust. Next thing you know, your car is getting towed away because some cop says it's not safe to drive on the road.

As mentioned Garage Five is well connected in the industry so they can get almost any parts you want at decent prices. Of course it doesn't hurt to shop around with other local shops. They can install most parts in house.

As for shops for other automotive work I recommend seeing Randy at Dynamic Performance. He does side jobs after hours at the shop and is a certified Subaru tech.

Oh great thanks guys! Some good points about the tint as well, at least going tintless is cheaper 😄

I purchased an 08' STi with everything except the windshield tinted and I've never had an issue. The front two are couple tints lighter than the back which are pretty dark.

I would however agree with the previous posters; no need to give them a reason to look.

You can go as dark as you want on your back windows and rear windshield, but if you have ANY tint on your fronts you will get nailed...

Try LLumar model AR80, it is a clear color tint.

I've got 35% tint on the front door windows and 5% on the rears of my Xterra for 7 years and never had any problems with police. Same for all the cars I've had since 1996.

Just don't drive like a nitwit and you'll be ok.

I've never heard of officers ripping the tint off your windows. Never.
