Default Question regarding highway cruising RPM's

My Brother-in-law's dad (75yo) has a 2006 Subaru Tribeca. On a trip back from Canada he said he noticed his RPM's were high at around 3000 RPM while running at about 75 mph. He said he went to pass a semi and when it kicked down it was revving up to 5000+ RPM. My BIL asked that I take a look at it.

Not knowing at all what the normal cruising RPM is on these H6's I checked the trans oil, which was at the correct level and didn't smell burnt. Then I checked the ECU with Torque Pro and no stored codes.

I asked him if he was sure it was running at 3000 RPM's and he said maybe it was 2700 RPM's but this is the fist time he's been "aware" of the RPM's especially when he went to pass that semi.

I couldn't find anything wrong with the vehicle and a Gsearch isn't really providing me any data on highway cruising RPM's for a Tribeca.

And so I ask, is 2700-3000 RPM a normal RPM while cruising on the highway at 75 mph for a Tribeca? If not, what is considered normal?

Thanks!

I lost my Tribeca in a crash two years ago, so my memory of it might not be perfect, but that sounds about right. The 3.0 is a little weak on torque, so it needs to rev a bit to get good power out of it.

With the same number of cylinders firing per minute, a V8 would be loafing along at about 2K rpm.
