Default Splicing wideband into usb

Just got my Aem x series wideband installed, I have an openport 2.0 to connect with.
Most of the instructions I see are to get a db9 serial connector, and a db9 to usb cable.
Has anyone just figured out which leads in the usb end up getting used?

I'd have to order the db9 stuff, (and wait for it) whereas I have numerous spare usb cables.

it doesn't work like that. there is a chip and circuit board inside the adapter. its not just swapping the wires around inside. get one with an "FTDI" chipset. they work better.

USB protocols & the db9 rs232 protocols are completely different, requiring computing hardware (not that much, but it isn't a splice-N-go kind of thing) to convert. You're just going to have to go wideband to serial adapter plugged into serial to USB.
