Default CarBerry Rom Video Tutorial

As title suggest I want to make a basic getting started with open source, specifically “Carberry rom”. With the amount of help I have received from nasioc I want to give back so this is what I thought of. The video would be high quality sound and video with graphics showing step 1 of what’s needed, to rom editing and opening...etc. what do you guys think should I do it and if so In separate videos In 5 min increments or one long complete bad boy XD

Feeeeedback !

Basic start to flashing..

...and carberry...

Are oxymorons.

Carberry provides way too many parameters, but I'm not gonna stop you. If you can break it down to where those that are new to ecu tables can understand - more power to ya!!

on one hand its a great idea. on the other... it might be TOO easy for some people to flash carberry and blow there stanced bugeye up. figuring out how to get it all up and running is the right of passage for carberry.

although it would be nice to have a video on it in case i have to set up another computer and don't remember where all the defs and patches go.

i think what we really need a is a "stage 1" and "stage 2" carberry base map so people don't keep trying to flash the group n rom on a EJ205 thinking it will run right.

how about starting with the basics?

1. switching off all bells and whistles to begin with i.e. anti-lag, LC, nlts... etc
2. dialing in target boost
3. following it with appropriate fueling
4. reducing timing to start with because this map has madness for timing
5. dialing in VE

once those are in then advance to others like

6. avcs
7. injector timing

then the bells...

i could also do with a tutorial. i'm playing with mine as i wait for my cable even as i read much on it.

^^^I agree with that approach.

Start with the basics and break it into several topics.

it's kind of a rite of passage.

you have to download the patch in a zip, and patch the stock A4TJX100 rom that comes in the zip folder. Then, you need to add a couple definitions to romraider definition manager, and add a couple definitions to the rommetadata folder for ecuflash.

You can find the zip on the main carberry thread on romraider.

I'd think setting it up would be the most informative. Once you're set up, it's just tuning a ROM.

I tuned my car on Carberry in 2011, and it's been great ever since. But I moved to the other coast and had to adjust for 91 octane instead of 93, and my old computer wouldn't boot anymore. So I got a new PC, and all new versions of Carberry, and now there are like 50 more tables in there that throw errors/"disabled table" messages on bootup when I try to load my old map. I don't care about most of them (LC, FFS, etc), so I X'd out of those messages, but it would have been helpful at the time to have a quick reference for definitions, table transfer, rescaling the tables, and quick explanations of the tables.

I'm all set, so don't do it for me, but it sure would be helpful to consolidate all the info on the RomRaider forums into a punch list FAQ for the Carberry rom. In other words, for folks who don't touch their tune for 5+years at a time.

if you're using ecuflash to edit:

you need to find the old carberry xml definitions within the rommetadata\subaru subfolders, wherever you put it before. delete them, and then add the latest Carberry 4.2 ecu flash definitions, which you can google search for on the romraider forums, it's a post by Artizle. Pick one of the three, and save the other two to another directory (like one of your c: drive tuning repositories or something) so if you want MAP axis timing, use that def, etc.

put it into whichever folder you can remember.

to simplify your install, you could delete ecuflash, reinstall the newest version, then download the latest definitions, and then add the lastest carberry definitions. a little bit of work, but freshening up is nice.

in either case, for wherever you put your carberry definitions, they will load regardless of directory, if you're in or beyond the rommetadata folder.

if you're only using ecuflash to flash the ROM, then it doesn't matter which definition you're using. just don't edit/save it.

If you're using romraider to edit, then just update your definitions. latest defs on romraider, on the top post of the carberry main thread.
