Subaru will introduce its Next Generation New Platform (N-PF) for compacts (Impreza, Forester) as well as its Next Generation Hybrid Power Source (N-PS, aka SSHEV) sometime around the 2nd quarter of 2006. The new Subaru flagship 7-passenger vehicle will be introduced around the end of the 1st quarter of 2005. Graphically, the Subaru's product plans look like this:

I just hope they will have STI's and Legecy's that don't look like the concept cars they have shown at car shows in 2007. Thats when I plan on buying a new car. Still gonna keep the WRX, don't ever want to give up my classic Bug Eyes

My guesses:
R1e (Europe + Asia only?) Scrambler (B9, hope so ...) Impreza/Impreza Outback Sport Cross-Sports Forester/Forester Legacy/Legacy Outback New Flagship/7-Passenger I think now they'll have a cross-over/SUV form for every model, although I think it'll change as the years go by. Just some thoughts |

I could also see, as others have noted before, getting rid of the impreza wagon and outback sport altogether and focusing on the Forester.

Hopefully they really mean global, I don't think it would be wise to exclude North America on the R1e. With rising gas prices and higher demand for smaller alternative fuel vehicles it would be silly to not offer a Prius competitor. I predict the following in the next 5 model years-
Flagship Car = Large luxury sedan Flagship Coupe = B11S SUV = 7 Pax Minivan = Traviq Mid-Size SUV = Forester Mid-Size Car = Legacy line Compact Car = Impreza line Compact SUV = Justy GX Sub-Compact = R1e Hybrid Roadster = B9 Scrambler STi variations of Forester, Legacy, and Impreza. Prodrive variations of all other models instead of LL Bean badging. |

Knowing Subaru they'll probably just cut off or add pieces to their cars and call it a new car (Baja, Outback). I hope not though.
I can't figure out why they have waited so long to make a full size 7 passenger SUV... can't imagine the sales they've lost not having one (at least in the US). I could see them making an Impreza Hybrid and calling it something else. |

Here is my thinking
7 pax suv Dakota sized pickup legacy sedan, wagon, and COUPE sti model late 05 impreza sedan & wagon STi as coupe or sedan forester w/ a STi model by 07 new smaller rally car platform (think Pug. 206 size) minivan = traviq Baja gets the axe in MY06 |

Impreza
Legacy Outback 7-Seater Hybrid car Thats the general view of what I think they will do, in fact probably do. The 7 seater we know is coming, and the Hybrid will be required to offset CAFE. |

Hmmm... EPA has just announced a timetable for low-sulphur diesel. I wonder if we'll see a diesel boxer and a diesel/electric hybrid making the rounds of the car shows before long?

The only other option for a pickup would be a unibody chassis, a la Honda's Odessy based concept. I think Subaru has learned their lesson with the Baja. Re the minivan, that is the whole purpose of the 7 Pax. Minivans were hot at one point, but has since been replaced by SUV's. Sure, SUV are rough and don't have the handling of even a minivan, but that's why they have evolved to crossover SUV's that have the space of a minivan with the rugged look of an SUV and the handling of a car. I don't know what Subaru will do other than what's already been confirmed (7 Pax), but I would love to see a STi lineup along the lines of AMG. I'm personally waiting for a Forester STi. Don't worry, I'm not holding my breath. I also think there will be a real sports car, not a SVX, but something more along the lines of the old XT. Two doors, two seats, AWD with two engine choices, 250HP 2.5L H4 Turbo and a 3.7L 375HP H6 Turbo. The current NA 3.0 H6 is terribly redunant compared to the 2.5 H4 Turbo. Sure it's aimed at a more refined ride, but I've read that the H4 Turbo can be tuned to be just as smooth and refined. This thing could be a real contender for a Porsche 911 Carrera 4 for less than half the price. Heck, there could even be a 450HP STi 3.7L H6. |

Always good to hear your thoughts Max...cuz you have an awesome name!
I agree that we won't see a pickup as big as a dakota...especially the next gen dakota. However, I think Subaru has demonstrated that they recognize how big the pickup market is in the US and I would be suprised if they give up on it this soon. I would love to see a new Baja-like vehicle but based on the new 7pax platform. mo |

my hopes
an sti model line up (like AMG) A separation of Impreza and WRX ( just like separation of Outback and Legacy) Forester will stay a return of the svx (like the revival of the brat into baja) Outback/Legacy will stay make Impreza more of a premium car against likes of jetta the 7 pax the fullsize car based off of the 7pax the R1e |

Heh, that's really not too bad of a look IMO, even though I'm not a big fan of that type of headlight, the execution of that look looks a bit better. It appears to have lines from a number of different vehicles. Even enough space for that front place.

The upside down Alfa grill is starting to grow on me too, but I'm skeptical of how that grill will look on other models. The roadster reminds me of the BMW Z8. Strong and sleek, but not as feminine, sexy like a Ferrari.
To be honest, I'm sort of a Mazdaphile, but there are no Mazda's on my short list of possible vehicle purchases and 2 Subaru's (FXT and STi). I still think Mazda design, especially in the last couple of years, have been very attractive while Subaru designed (excluding new Legacy sedan, the wagon still seems a bit odd) is lacking or too angular without being stylist. Subaru's strongest attributes are the AWD system, the flexibility of it's flat 4 (170HP, 250HP, 300HP) and value. That is why the Forester and the STi are on my list and the Mazda6 and Mazda3 are not though I find them much more attractive. Large aftermarket support for the H4 turbo is also a big bonus. Of course, this could change if a Turbo/Supercharged Mazdaspeed RX-8 or a 4th gen RX-7 makes to market. |
