My Subaru Future model predictions
Something I've been thinking about for a while and should write down so later I can say I told you so
2006 WRX Redesign with new Subaru face 2.0 or 2.5 liter, but I'l leaning towards 2.0 liter still. Making 235hp and somewhere between 225-235 lb-ft torque. 2007 LGT Bump in HP to 275hp and 275 lb-ft torque. Add nav system as option.(this may occur for 2006 model) 2008 LGT Redesign to incorporate new Subaru face. 2008 LGT STI Designed with new subaru face and has H6 3.0 turbo engine making 325HP and 300 lb-ft torque. 2008 Tribeca Option to come with new H6 3.5 liter engine making 265HP and 230 lb-ft torque. What do you think. It seems to make logical sense to me.

Subaru mentioned SEVERAL times at the LA Auto Show the "potential" for a large sedan using the Tribeca platform. This may be old news and rumor, but it is strange how many times it was mentioned. With the hints so prominent this time, I believe its unveiling might be imminent (like an '07/'08 model). Perhaps IT will be called the Halifax? |

If they do design a new car from the tribeca platform, I wouldn't rule out subaru introducing it as a new Outback. Subaru has been distinguishing the Outback from the Legacy the last couple of years and this seems to be a natural progression. The Outback was once a trim package for a Legacy, the final step to distinguish it as a seperate vehicle could be to use the Tribeca platform....just a thought. |

i highly doubt the outback will be made largernon the B9 platform.. i think the line up in the next 10yrs will be something like:
legacy,outback,forester,impreza,B9,B9 sedan, r1, r2, justy gone after subaru makes its own diesel |

I think the diff. betw. the Legacy & Imprezza is getting too big. I mean its more than a foot now. What they need is to make the Imprezza larger, with a longer wheelbase, to compete with the rest of the market (bigger Mazda 3, bigger Jetta, bigger Corolla etc... which all have >100" wheelbases) for compact sedans. This is especially true if they're competing as "preumium" or "upmarket". Then make the WRX a compact hatch on the 99" wheelbase. |

Well, there's been talk in the past of increasing the size of the Legacy and Impreza and coming up with a smaller car (dare we hope hatchback).

I forgot the Forrester:
2007 Designed with new subaru face. Either a hybrid or diesel engine option, but I think the diesel is a better chance. Also Baja dead on 2006. |

How about an improved Stereo system for all Subaru's. Given that they are moving away from 3rd party options, without rebuilding your facia. I would like to see a CD with MP3, and an Optional DVD with possible GPS and or system info screens. Something like the Avic-N1 but with the screen in the right place and optional flip down or rear headrest screens. XM radio and Hard Drives for music movie GPS storage.
Oh and adjustable seat bolsters. |

After the B9 Tribeca, Subaru needs a new larger Sedan and Wagon - Code Name B10 / B11. This sedan/wagon should be a size larger than the Legacy, which IMHO is a compact to midsize car. This car should be a larger platform making it truly a midsize to fullsize car.
I was thinking of a car at least as large or on par in size and interior dimensions with the following: Lexus - LS430 Infiniti - M45 Cadillac - STS Lincoln - LS Acura - RL Audi - A6 Jaguar - S-TypeR Volvo - S80 BMW - 5 Series Saab - 9-5 Mercedes - E Class Acura - TL Infiniti - G35 Lexus - GS430 I picked these cars because they are under 200 inches and a wheelbase max of about 116 inches. The LS430 and STS are on the large side of what I would like to see, and the G35, TL and GS430 are on the small side. I did a little analysis and came up with the average dimensions based on the Edmunds listed interior and exterior dimensions of the above cars. I have used the averages unless where noted. Length: Current Legacy - 186.2" Proposed B10/11 - 192" Wheelbase: Current Legacy - 105.1" Proposed B10/11 - 111-114"* * 111" is Avg. The S-Type, LS and 5 Series all have longer than 113" wheelbase. Width: Current Legacy - 68.1" Proposed B10/11 - 72-76"* * The avg is 72" but the S-TypeR and new A6 are 81" and 73" inches. So I like the upper end around 76" inches Height: Current Legacy - 56.1" Proposed B10/11 - 57-57.5" Weight: Current Legacy - 3365 Lbs Proposed B10/11 - 3750-3850 Lbs* The avg is 3879 Lbs. The RL is 3984, the A6 is 4145, the E Class is 4150, the STS is 4295. Frt Headroom: Current Legacy - 37.5" Proposed B10/11 - 38.2-38.6"* Avg is 38.2, TL, STS, S-TypeR are 38.7 to 38.6" Rear Headroom: Current Legacy - 36.5" Proposed B10/11 - 37.3-37.6"* 37.3' is Avg, the S80 is 37.6" Frt Hip Room: Current Legacy - 51.0" Proposed B10/11 - 54.4-55.3"* 54.4" is Avg, S80 has 55.3" Rear Hip Room: Current Legacy - 52.6" Proposed Legacy - 54.7-55.6"* *The avg is 54.7", the S80 and STS have 55.6" Frt Shoulder Room: Current Legacy - 54.4" Proposed Legacy - 57.3-58"* 57.3" is Avg, the S80 has 58.0" Rear Shoulder Room: Current Legacy - 53.7" Proposed B10/11 - 56.4 Front Leg Room: Current Legacy - 44.1"* Proposed B10/B11 - 44.1* The Legacy had more room than all but one, the GS430 Rear Leg Room: Current Legacy - 33.9" Proposed B10/11 - 35.8-37.0"* The Avg is 35.8", the 9-5 - 36.6", A6 36.9",and the S-TypeR has 37.0". The more room the better. I think a car with these added dimensions will do well for Subaru. Stepping up in size doesn't mean it has to be luxury but definitely premium in the lines of Volvo, Saab and Jaguar. It would be nice to have S-TypeR power, and S80 safety and A6 style and 5 series driving dynamics. Is that too much to ask for? :-) The heck with the 5 series, Blitzen Legacy driving dynamics. :-) Last edited by buddhas-gtb; 01-13-2005 at 06:37 PM. |

I also predict that by 2010 all Subarus names will be alfa and numbers like the original b9x. If you think about it, there aren't any "premium" car manufactures that use names for there cars. Acura was the last before they changed the Intergra. |

This is a pretty interesting thread, albeit with a good deal of speculation and rumor, so just to add a little to the fire, I will throw out a little bit of rumor that both I and a friend who works at another dealership both heard from different sources a little over a year ago.
A 4.2 liter H8 was far into development. Not saying it is true, but we both heard it from people with Subaru, and unfortunately, I have heard nothing since, but that would be something sweet to drop into a Tribeca...or...dare I say it...a new Sports Coupe in the vein of the SVX. |

I said something about a 5L H8 a few months ago. But i was just thinking of doing the Subaru thing of fitting various engines or parts there of together and making a better solution.
2 2.5L H4 would make a nice Mustang like 5L H8. |

A Legacy STI will make less HP than a WRX STI because it will be catered to a different audience. It will have a flatter torque curve and not the on/off power like the WRX STI. Think of it more as a Grand Tourer instead of a rally racer. |

i've said something similar before and ill say it again:
within the next 10 yrs Subaru will have a line up similar to this (with the airfoil grille/family face): B11S/B9SC sports coupe* B9 Tribeca* B9 (Tribeca based sedan) B7 Legacy* B7 Outback B5 Impreza* B5 Forester* R2 R1 The engines that will be availible will include (in the U.S.): 2.5 H4 2.5 H4t 3.0 H6 3.0 H6tt Toyota based electric hybrid with H4 Diesel 2.0H4 The 2.5 H4-3.0 H6 are already offered.. since Subaru offered up a H6tt in the B11s why not availible later on? If the H6tt does go into play, it will be in the B9 sedan, sports coupe, and B9 Tribeca.. it will eventually go in the Tribeca for sure i believe bc if you look at the current Subaru line-up.. every Subaru has a turbo model offered.. the Tribeca will get the H6tt as a second engine stepping it into the 40K+ realm Thats wat i think.. good future ahead IMO EDIT:* indicate this car will have a potential STi model in the U.S. |
