![]() I was following this on Bring a Trailer and was surprised to see this go for $50k. I hope this trend continues with our cars. Future Classic?

![]() Bring a trailer seems to bring in the big bucks for selling cars. I saw a 99 civic si go for 50,000$.
That's definitely the place to list a car if you want way over market value. |

![]() I wonder if the buyer actually paid that money or if he bid and then ghosted, abandoning his account. Paying that much for that car is just stupid.

But to buy that as an 'investment' would be downright idiotic. If you want to invest 50 grand put it in a company stock that tanked when our government decided it would be wise to self destruct the entire economy except for tech companies. |

![]() usually premium cars being sold there. Those with fewer miles high options ect. A lot of people that used to go to the big auctions (Mecum, Barrett-Jackson, Bonham, ect) are moving to online platform like BAT. This era of car is also coming into the high point with people who wanted these in high school or college now have enough money to buy whatever they want so they get what they consider to be the best version.

The guy who won YamahaSho's (a member on here) car https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...za-wrx-sti-25/ also purchased a 2018 ford GT for $826,000 https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2018-ford-gt/ We think it's stupid to spend 30k-50k on an sti because we're "broke", but these guys buying them have money to wipe their asses with. |

![]() A few notes from an old guy:
1. If you get lucky, you can sometimes find a ‘deal’ on BaT. I comment on there fairly often when I feel that I have the expertise to say something helpful, usually about cars from the ‘60s or ‘70s. Some of the bidders on BaT are exotic car dealers who cater to an exclusive clientele. They’re willing to buy at-or-above market for top-drawer examples, knowing that their customers will pay a premium because they don’t want to take the time to search for a specific car. I’ve been looking for a particular model 911 for several years. When I bid on BaT or any other auction site, I set a strict limit on my bidding and so far have always been out-bid. 2. I’d say that many of the bidders on BaT, Hemmings and similar sites are buying ‘toys’. We’re willing to pay for very nice cars that don’t get driven every day and that we’re planning to keep for years. For example, my WRX gets only a couple of thousand miles a year because I have other cars to use as daily drivers. Since I’ve retired, anything I buy has to meet a standard: If it doesn’t make me smile when I open the garage door, it gets sold. 3. While I certainly don’t have ‘money to wipe my ass with’, I do have a ‘toy fund’ for buying cars and parts. If I sell a car, the money goes back into the fund. If you’re even moderately good at managing money, you can do the same. |

![]() I was watching that one. If it was WRB it would have went for much more IMO.
BaT brings the money for pristine, low mileage JDM goodness. IMO it's because people in their late twenties through thirties always lusted for them as kids, and finally have money to buy such a car but finding clean ones is so hard. Hence the high prices. |

![]() it says bring a trailer writes the listing for the seller, do they also arrange delivery/pickup details for the buyer and seller? Just curious how these auctions differ from Ebay auto sales.

![]() LOL I just bought a 2005 STi very clean with only 70k miles on the drivetrain for $7,500. This is a joke or fake. Most likely the site themselves bid on their items as a marketing scheme, or kids who are just playing around abandons the account after they win the bid and never pay. Good for the action because they just leave it on their site that it was sold at $50k. A 2014 STi is not a limited STi or anything special. Not even a limited color like i had on my 2004 STi that was Java pearl black.

![]() There's a world of difference between a car with 70,000 miles and one with 15,000 miles. I'd never buy this BaT car, but there are lots of picky people with a lot of money to spend on cars that they couldn't afford to buy when new.

Here, 2014 STi with 31k miles WRB on it for $30K. Even this is on a high note https://www.carfax.com/vehicle/JF1GR8H68EL245846 Again, I'm 100% sure no one bought that car for $50k. That is just out right retarded. Now if it was a 2005 or a 2007 STi Limited with 15k miles, them maybe, and that is a big maybe, I might understand that. The 2004-2007 STi with low miles super clean are more in demand then the later years. Last edited by BlackFighter; 01-13-2021 at 04:58 PM. |

The logic of "guys who couldn't afford it back in the day now can. . ." does NOT apply to a 6 year old car, period. That logic applies to a 1985 testarossa that was hanging on a guys wall when he was 13 and now he's 48 and can afford it. And keep in mind that testarossa depreciated like ANY car for 25 years. . . .yes, until those kids could finally buy the car they loved as a kid 35 years later and they start selling again for prices that would have been new or a little more back then. At least that makes some sense. Sheesh. So what's the theory here. This guy always wanted an STI when he was 16 in high school and now he's 22 and decided to spend 20% more than new for a 6 year old STI with 50 grand. ehhhh, sorry, sounds fishy, just doesn't make much sense |
