If you wouldn't buy a M-B because of electronic issues before.. now you have a solid reason to avoid one for mechanical reasons as well.

I'm beginning to think that AMG > M. ~360HP out of 2L is just insane. And recent AMG products all have great chassis to go with the motor. I'd love me an E63 AMG.

Great aesthetics and specs but yeah, I'd be terrified to rag on it for fear of the motor exploding at any given time.

I'm more confident on in-house engineering than tuned engines. This might be well designed. Also, the FQ-400 EVO had that more power out of a 2 liter and from the factory.

That rear seat's going to be the most useless thing evAr. Cute CF trim in the interior, though.
(As far as the engine, I agree with Beaverboy's original comment.) |

Well, the catch there is not so much that it wasn't street legal, but that it was 30 years ago. We'll see how the new M3/4 comes out, but I have been quite underwhelmed by the direction they took with the M5. When just about everyone thinks the E63 is much harder edged than the M5, there is something wrong with the picture.

Well, not from the factory. They rolled off the production line as regular Evos, and the UK importer then dropped them off at UK tuners and sold them with a warranty.

360hp out of a 2.0liter. Damn! Im guessing for that type of power, the engine comes stock with forge piston,ect... Not Cast piston.

I guess the Mitsubishi Evo FQ series don't count as "production cars".
Unless they mean "currently in production"? |

Never really been a fan of MB, but I think this car and engine are pretty darn awesome. I love the looks and all the power squeezed out of a 2.0L turbo from the factory. If this was in my price range, I would definitely be giving this a serious look/test drive.

First, no one cares about a Datsun 240z.
Just kidding. The point was that I'm a little thunderstruck by the fanboi hatred, for this car, when it represents a lot of what this community wants. The Subaru enthusiast community wants a well built (reliable), solid power outputing awd platform; the CLA 45AMG is that and much more. The difference is that Mercedes has the ability to tap in to this market, and charge a higher premium (brand). In this case, you're getting what you pay for; many feel that this hasn't been the case for our community, for quite a while. |
