Most of their stuff is internal. Their bag system really is the tits. I have the side rack in my FJ and it is a well built product.

I'll keep that in mind. I won't be doing much alteration internally for a while, I imagine. Right now, I occasionally have to cart around the girlfriend's daughter... so removing the back seat and including some form of hard mounted storage is out of the question. Believe-you-me, I never intended on keeping the rear seat in this thing, but I have to until we purchase her a new car.

That's why a cargo rack is my best option... save for the whole garage height issue.

Or a spare tire mount rack.

I also use one of those cheapy rear hitch mount racks... it was $49 at Tractor Supply.

In a perfect world the spare would be mounted on top of the cargo rack...

...sadly, I am tire carrier shopping as well.

My reading indicated they are a giant waste of time and money... that the factory spot is good, it's another thing to open/close, and all the aftermarket ones will eventually rattle/fall apart.

I am gonna get this eventually-

The stock carrier on the JK can hold some weight, but once you have the weight of a 35" tire (or larger) you run the risk of popping the welds and placing too much stress on the hinges. The additional weight of aftermarket tires of that magnitude wasn't considered when reinforcing the rear gate. Given such, you can either replace/upgrade the carrier itself (OR-FAB offers a nifty carrier) or replace the carrier and bumper with the typical all-in-one job.

Yes, I know that's what I linked above (TJ only currently).

Cheaper and simpler than the OR Fab Design.

I clicked through the link (and site) a bit... are there pictures of the actual construction? I may have missed it if there is detail on it.

That's pretty cool. I think I may have seen something similar for the JK, my memory is fuzzy on it though.

That would be cool. I just don't want to have to open two things to get into the back of my jeep, and since I already have an aftermarket bumper with a hitch it's a waste to get one with a tire carrier for $500+

Understandable. I can't say that I would care about opening two things... I just don't want my gate/spare to fall off while I am driving. I don't want to have to buy a new piece when I upgrade tire sizes from 35" to 37" to so forth.

Yeah, the one I posted has different mounting positions for different tires.

i like my carrier, but if i had it to do again i would buy my psc bumper sans the tire carrier and get this style. i really like the can carrier location.

Again, going off of fuzzy memory, the JK reinforcement kits that I have seen have a limit to the size. Regardless, the idea of mounting a 40" or a 42" tire to the gate (even with reinforcement) seems like you would be asking for something bad to happen.

From the photos I have seen, my biggest qualm with the OR-FAB carrier is how far the carrier sticks out. I say this is my biggest qualm because I would rather not have anything back there and have the spare on a cargo rack.

Agreed, that thing would likely drag with some of the wheeling I have done.

I am not gonna go find it, but the guy that built the TJ one I linked had pics of him, 6'6" 240 lbs, standing on top of the spare tire.

I hate spending money as it is... but to front a few grand from my mod budget to cover the unforeseen move, well, it simply delays my tire and lift purchase.
holy crap! There is nothing worse than surprise expenses... i get annoyed enough when i have to spend money on things that break like water heaters and washers and dryers. I would be so pissed if it was a result of a-holes breaking into my house.
