Default What to do? Have a kid on the way sell the VW Rabbit and Buy an Outback or keep it?

VW Rabbit
14,000 miles
2 door
Coilovers
Sways
Exhaust
Tuned and Chipped
Payment $311 a mounth 3.5 years left to go at 3.99% apr

Outback Sport
New from Subaru
4 door
Only mods will be SPT springs
Payment around $320 a month for 6 years 3.99% apr

If i trade in the rabbit I will get full payoff. I would also sell the aftermarket parts so I will have around $1000 extra in the bank to do whatever with. I dont want to put it down on the car so it would be fun money down the road.

Keep in mind that this is my daily. I also have a 07 STI that is paid off as my fun car for the summer.

What would you do??

Keep the rabbit. There is no need for a wagon with only 1 kid.

Keep the rabbit. The minor inconvenience of putting the kid in the back outweighs the three extra years of car payment, IMO.

Plus he's got the STI if he really wants the 4 doors. Although I never understood the idea of a Subaru as "summer car."

keep the rabbit.

If you need more room for a long trip or whatever, take the STI.

Even with 2 kids, the STI is OK. We have 2 (3 & 5) with a WRX wagon & a older minivan. We take the wagon on all the long trips & have plenty of room inside, STI would be the same.

Never do a 6 year car loan, ever.

Keep the rabbit, it'll be a bit of a pain, but there is a ton of room in the back and its not worth paying an extra $11k for 2 more doors. If you really feel the need for more doors, look at a used car.

yea, I'd say stay away from 3 more years of payments and if it proves that horrible- you can use the STi.

The other thing to think of- is the child going to be driven by you primarily (or do you have one car, etc) because if not, the primary car will get the better child carrying systems- aka once the child is out of the car carrier base, unless you want to keep switching the car seat, you'll have 2.

12345 Plus he's talking about an Outback Sport (ie Impreza), not the bigger Outback.

Only 14k on the clock of the VW? You would be losing way too much money to trade it. I wouldn't be able to justify the trade solely based off suffering such a loss.

Right now you have a kid on the way.

Do you want a kid and a car payment on the way?

We got rid of our Golf once we had kids. We were worried about the amount of crush space in back.

Awkwardly the golf was better in the back, but much worse in the side.

I had a 2 door civic and the 2 doors completely sucked balls for transporting an infant, and evidently if you have the baby in the passenger seat you are automatically the worst father ever.

The thing is you have to look at things long term, are you ok with using the rabbit as the kid transporter for a couple years? Are you ok with the infant doing infant/child things in the rabbit (puke, food/drink, pee, etc...).

My three year old told me that she has decided that my car is completely awesome and she loves riding in it. ****ing better be, I only bought it because of her.
