Default injector install help

im in the middle of installing sti injectors and i have a few concerns.
1. does the lower (bigger) o-ring on the top of the injectors seat into the fuel rail? because the top o-ring seated in fine.
2. is there supposed to be any play in the injector (twisty) after install?
Thanks for any help!

The lower o-ring (biggest) should fit snugly into the manifold
the upper o-ring (smallest) should fit snugly into the rail

The middle "cushion" that mounts near the upper o-ring just takes up space. They aren't even strictly necessary and things should work fine without them. So they aren't critical at all.

The injector should twist freely on axis. If you're using Denso injectors, the connector has a "slot" that fits into a tab on the rails that allows very little twist after you plug them in, but they should still have free play.. At least on some model years. I did an 08 last week that was that way, I don't recall if the 02-05 is that way or not. In either event, they should easily twist back and forth 90+ degrees before you put the plugs into them.

Recently did an injector install here. The middle cushion isn't really necessary but I would roll with it anyways if you have it. It doesn't make install harder or anything.

You should be able to turn the injectors even after install. They rotate pretty freely, so don't panic about that.

Is that top o-ring (the one that creates the seal for injector to fuel rail) supposed to fit tight on the injector or is it supposed to be a little loose?

Im having an issue with that o ring. I have a harbor freight o- ring kit, and ive tried about three different times with similar sized o-rings, but they always leak. Im in a pinch so i have to shell out unnecessary amounts of cash tomorrow at the dealership in order to get the correct o-ring kit for the injectors. Just curious about that top o ring though.

Get off the wallet dude before you set yourself on fire. You DO NOT cheap out on fuel components unless you want to walk around on fire. You have to use high quality fuel safe O-rings, not a Harbor Freight 900 O-rings for $9 kit. For the love of Christ, lay your tools down and walk away.

Got u i know i have to use viton o rings, but i was investigating what was causing my injectors to leak late saturday evening and i realized the o ring was ripped. The harbor freight kit was all i had at the time, so thats what i opted to use as a temporary fix, till monday.

Be careful, I got a great deal on my last wrx because it had an injector leak and the engine compartment caught fire.

Got one o-ring at one dealer, then drove 40 min outta my way to get the other injector o ring at another dealer. $24 total.. I installed them and all went well . No leaks.

I also left that metal bracket (gbod) that goes over the rails off. Didnt see a need to put that back on. Just connected a hose directly from driver side head breather to tmic plumbing.
