I only lose about 10-15% fuel economy so it's not really that bad.

I used to do 80 or 90mph in my old WRX with my canoe on the roof all the time. It really wasn't that noticeable. The aerodynamics are actually pretty good, if you think about it -- it's not like you're putting it up on the roof sideways.
