How would you describe the difference in handling of the USDM STi and the BMW 330i?
Can anyone who had driven a BMW 330 sport package or performance package and an STi comment on the handling difference between the two cars? Are they similar or completely different? How would you describe the handling of the one car vs. the other?

I only got a short drive of the 330i in 02, but it blow me away. I have never drove anything that have such a solid feel. It feels like the whole car is a solid piece of granites. Yet the suspension was smooth and glide smoothly thru the rough surfaces, but handling was really good. Be prepare to pay though, easily costs over 40K.

My wife drives a 2003 525i (w/sports package) with a 5 speed manual it could use more go, but it's fine for my wife . However, the car is rock solid and handles really well - I haven't owned a car that was a responsive as this thing is on the road (in terms of handling - my Volvo blows it away in terms of straight line performance once the turbo spools).

i only got to ride along in the 330,
the trimout is nice, and it seemed to handle fine. if you are a big guy, and like smaller cars, the 330 seems to fit very well... other than that im sory, i didnt want to ask to drive it if he wasnt going to offer.. |

I had an '02 330i with the Sport Package, 5 speed auto.
It handled really good IMO. The steering feel is better than that of my STi, it had a dead-on center feeling while driving on the highway. On slow speed turns, the BMW feels pretty stiff. The power assist on the STi is higher on low speeds (maybe the front diff that makes the difference). The BMW is tail-happy when you punch it in a turn. The brakes had also excellent feel, they had quite a bite. Switching to the STi w/ Brembos, I was a little dissapointed by the STi's pedal feel, I would have expected a stronger bite. The sport package is pretty stiff on the 330i, but I feel the STi's much stiffer, which I do like. I hated the floor hinged pedal on the 330i, just a PITA to find a comfortable position without having strains in my right ankle. I won't comment or even compare interior trims... apples to oranges... The sport package seats in the 330i are a bit too wide for my taste, not enough bolstering. The nice three spoke steering wheel rim is too thin, the STi's so much better and has a better grip (courtesy of Momo). |
